{"id":294298,"date":"2026-02-12T14:07:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T14:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/294298\/"},"modified":"2026-02-12T14:07:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T14:07:11","slug":"28000-more-staff-across-limerick-saving-for-pensions-after-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/294298\/","title":{"rendered":"28,000 more staff across Limerick saving for pensions after reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ALMOST 28,000 Limerick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/233\/business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">workers<\/a> who previously had no pension provision are now actively saving towards their retirement, local TD Niall Collins has said.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of this year, staff across Ireland who were not saving for a pension previously are automatically enrolled into a company scheme.<\/p>\n<p>This was done in order to reduce reliance on the State pension, but people can opt out if they wish.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/politics\/2012662\/limerick-mayor-returns-to-work-after-falling-ill-during-marathon-meeting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick mayor returns to work after falling ill during marathon meeting<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr Collins has been given information which reveals some 27,892 local workers are enrolled for the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The new My Future Fund was put in place by Social Protection Minister Dara Calleary.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, over a quarter of the workforce from more than 104,000 employers have been auto enrolled into My Future Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The sectors which have had the largest percentage of workers auto enrolled include construction, retail, and hospitality.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Collins, a Minister of State at the Department of Justice said: \u201cMy Future Fund will benefit so many Limerick workers in the coming years and it will prove to be a truly revolutionary measure for Irish pensions, making sure that workers have more money in their retirement than they otherwise would.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out the measure had been suggested by the late Seamus Brennan over 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is about giving working people peace of mind and it\u2019s a simple way of knowing that today\u2019s hard work that all employees do, will support them tomorrow. This will provide employees with a solid foundation for their retirement,\u201d Mr Collins added.<\/p>\n<p>He also said: \u201cIn Fianna F\u00e1il, we recognise the significant contribution that employees make to our workforce.
