For months, we\u2019ve been trying to explain<\/a> just how excellent the new film, Obsession, is. We caught it on the film festival circuit last year,<\/a> and as Focus Features picked it up and slowly began to roll out its marketing<\/a>, we said it again and again. This movie is brutal, wild, and awesome. There was a very creepy teaser trailer<\/a> out late last year, and now an even better teaser is here. Finally, everyone can begin to see for themselves.<\/p>\n

Written and directed by relative newcomer Curry Barker, Obsession centers on a man named Bear (Michael Johnston) who is in love with his good friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette). Unfortunately for Bear, though, Nikki doesn\u2019t feel the same way. So when Bear finds a gag gift called a \u201cOne Wish Willow,\u201d he sees no harm in randomly wishing that Nikki love him more than anything in the world. What\u2019s the worst that can happen? Wishes don\u2019t come true, right? Right? Here\u2019s the latest teaser trailer for Obsession.<\/p>\n

That teaser sets the stakes and begins to hint at where everything goes, but there\u2019s so much more. Curry Barker pushes things to the limit with the film in ways that are sure to delight horror fans but also freak lots of people out. Johnston is great in the movie as this hopeless romantic who makes a horrible mistake, but Navarrette is the true breakout. The way she portrays this woman, unable to do anything besides love this man, is chilling. Plus, the performance has some really messed-up layers to it. We think she\u2019s got a bright future.<\/p>\n

So get ready. This is destined to be one of the best horror films of the year. In fact, in our eyes, it already is. Co-starring Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter, Obsession opens in theaters everywhere on May 15. Here\u2019s the killer teaser poster as well:<\/p>\n
