A brand-new art gallery dedicated to showcasing West Australian young and emerging talent is set to open in the heart of Mt Hawthorn this February, providing a much-needed permanent exhibition space.<\/p>\n

Oxford Street Gallery will open in Mt Hawthorn directed by mother-daughter duo Abbey and Lynette Telfer.<\/p>\n

The gallery aims to support and advocate for West Australian artists who may otherwise struggle to find opportunities to exhibit their work in Perth\u2019s increasingly competitive arts landscape.<\/p>\n

Abbey Telfer, 26, who has worked with some of WA\u2019s most prolific galleries and artists, said their was an immediate need for new creative spaces that showcase emerging artists.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, across the WA landscape, there aren\u2019t many spaces available to young, emerging and mid-career artists to show their work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cArtists are often limited to showing in pop-up group exhibitions, so I am very excited to be offering a permanent space from which they can build their careers and collector base.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lynette said the strong response from both artists and the local community highlighted the need for new creative spaces in Perth.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur community is home to an extraordinary wealth of young, talented artists, and it is a privilege to offer a platform where their work can be seen,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe enthusiasm has been overwhelming, both from artists eager to exhibit and from the local community in its strong turnout for opening night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Artist Annabelle Brockman, who will be among the first to exhibit at the gallery, said Oxford Street Gallery would play an important role in supporting the next generation of Perth artists and fostering collaboration within the creative community.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, this gallery really represents a new wave of artists coming through in Perth,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so refreshing to see a space that prioritises freedom for experiential work while also providing space for meaningful collaboration and community building.\u201d<\/p>\n

The gallery will also offer art consulting services, assisting collectors, businesses and organisations to source artworks that suit their spaces, while further supporting local artists through sales and commissions.<\/p>\n

The opening night on Friday, February 27 is free but attendees must register<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The inaugural exhibition DEBUT run will from February 27 to March 19, showcasing 20 emerging West Australian artists, including Rina Freiberg, Ariel Katzir, Julia Freiseisen and Tarad Ceramics.<\/p>\n
