{"id":29595,"date":"2025-09-18T21:06:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T21:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/29595\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T21:06:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T21:06:06","slug":"irelands-construction-sector-worth-e14-3bn-to-economy-says-cso","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/29595\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland\u2019s construction sector worth \u20ac14.3bn to economy, says CSO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ireland\u2019s construction sector is worth more than \u20ac14bn to the national economy, according to data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).<\/p>\n<p>For 2024, the CSO said the gross value added (GVA) in the sector was \u20ac14.3bn, a 6% increase from 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The largest subsector was electrical, plumbing, and other installation activities, accounting for 28% of the total GVA, followed by construction of residential and non-residential buildings at 27%, and building completion and finishing with 13%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The size of the sector relative to the domestic Irish economy when measured by gross national income was 4.5% in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It ranked third-lowest in the EU, ahead of Malta and Greece, and on par with Luxembourg and Bulgaria.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">CSO statistician Aoife Crowe said employment in construction increased by 2.8% from 166,918 in 2023 to 171,676 in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cMore than 6% of all people employed in Ireland worked in the construction sector in 2024, which was marginally below the EU average of 6.7%,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The employment growth was concentrated in the construction of buildings subsector, which was up by 12% in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Top occupations were electricians and electrical fitters, carpenters and joiners, and construction and building trades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The level of investment in dwellings rose by \u20ac11bn since 2020, and accounted for 5.6% of the overall economy last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This was the highest level of investment since 2009.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ireland\u2019s construction sector is worth more than \u20ac14bn to the national economy, according to data from the Central&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":29596,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[2127,61,60,43],"class_list":["post-29595","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-construction","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/29595","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=29595"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/29595\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/29596"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=29595"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=29595"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=29595"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
