{"id":297009,"date":"2026-02-14T02:30:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T02:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/297009\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T02:30:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T02:30:08","slug":"weather-warnings-forecast-rain-and-ice-as-dublin-hit-by-flooding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/297009\/","title":{"rendered":"Weather warnings forecast rain and ice as Dublin hit by flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rain and ice warnings have been issued for most counties across Ireland as parts of Dublin were hit by flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Dublin City Council said it would review the response to the floods, including the timings of weather warnings, as it continued to respond to incidents across the city.<\/p>\n<p>Some roads leading to Dublin Airport were closed, and several apartment block basements in north Dublin were flooded overnight.<\/p>\n<p>Griffith Park in Drumcondra and areas around the Mayne River in Clongriffin were also waterlogged.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to drain the water were underway on Friday ahead of further rain and ice warnings due to come into effect in the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u26a0\ufe0fStatus Yellow Rain\/Snow Warning\u26a0\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>Rain heavy at times turning to sleet or snow with strengthening winds will lead to:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Difficult travel conditions<br \/>\u2022 Poor visibility<\/p>\n<p>Area: Connacht, Cavan, Donegal, Longford<\/p>\n<p>Valid: Saturday 14\/2 12 noon to midnight<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GYji547FKt\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/GYji547FKt<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CRaWIk1anf\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/CRaWIk1anf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Met \u00c9ireann (@MetEireann) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MetEireann\/status\/2022278361079292172?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 13, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Met \u00c9ireann has issued a status yellow low temperature and ice warning from 9pm on Friday until 10am on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>A yellow rain warning has also been issued for Cork and Kerry, and a yellow rain-snow warning is in place for counties Cavan, Donegal, Longford and the five counties in Connacht, with both in effect from 12pm on Saturday until midnight on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>They said the rain will be heavy at times and turn to sleet or snow, which could create difficult travel conditions and poor visibility.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures are forecast to fall to between -1 and -3, creating hazardous travel conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning for counties Antrim, Down, Tyrone, and Derry, which is in effect from 8pm on Friday until 10am on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">With temperatures falling away tonight, snow &amp; ice warnings have been issued \u26a0\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8iDuadf9XO\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/8iDuadf9XO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Met Office (@metoffice) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/metoffice\/status\/2022282937098543339?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 13, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dublin City Council said 46mm of rainfall was recorded at the Mellowes Road rain gauge, with 9.6mm falling within a single hour.<\/p>\n<p>It said that a full review of the event had begun, \u201cincluding the timeliness of weather warnings\/forecasts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCombined with already saturated ground conditions, this resulted in significant surface water runoff and a number of flooding incidents across the city,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSignificant impacts were reported in several areas, including Clongriffin and Ballymun, where localised flooding affected roads and properties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Clongriffin, an Uisce \u00c9ireann foul sewer surcharged, resulting in road damage and property flooding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Council crews were deployed throughout the night and continued the flood response on Friday, and the public were urged to exercise caution and avoid driving through flooded roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognise the distress flooding can cause for residents and businesses and will continue to provide updates as further verified information becomes available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dublin Airport said flight operations were running as normal, but some roads leading to the area were closed or \u201ctrickier than usual to navigate\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It said: \u201cDrivers are advised to follow local diversion signage and to take extra care on the roads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dublin Bus advised customers that four routes serving the airport had been diverted because of flooding at Collinstown.<\/p>\n<p>Bus Eireann said adverse weather conditions and flooding has affected some roads on its scheduled services.<\/p>\n<p>Several of its services in the east of the country had been cancelled or delayed.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Due to heavy rainfall overnight, some roads leading to Dublin Airport are closed or trickier than usual to navigate this morning.
