\n\tOn the night that Van Der Beek\u2019s death was confirmed by his family, The Masked Singer<\/a> paid tribute to the actor with a touching title card at the beginning of the episode.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIn loving memory of our \u2018Griffin,’\u201d read the card.<\/p>\n

\n\tVan Der Beek was one of the contestants of Season 13 of the Fox reality competition. The actor was \u201cGriffin\u201d and was unmasked during the sixth episode of the season. During his time on the show, which aired at the beginning of 2025, he performed songs like \u201cRewrite the Stars,\u201d Rihanna\u2019s \u201cDisturbia,\u201d John Denver\u2019s \u201cTake Me Home, Country Roads,\u201d and Morgan Wallen\u2019s \u201cI Had Some Help.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe\u00a0Dawson\u2019s Creek\u00a0alum had been open about his cancer diagnosis, and after a lengthy battle with it, he died at the age of 48.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOur beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,\u201d the family wrote on Instagram. \u201cHe met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA crowdfunding campaign for his family was set up, and it quickly surpassed $1.5M<\/a>, with support from donors like Steven Spielberg and Jon M. Chu.<\/p>\n
