Labour Party councillor Louise Morgan Walsh raised the issue of the speed limit on the Borrisokane Road in Nenagh, outside the Drummin Village housing estate, several times.<\/p>\n
Cllr Morgan Walsh said that an 80 kilometre per hour speed limit that was in place outside the estate couldn\u2019t possibly be right.<\/p>\n
“This 80kmh limit outside Drummin Village on the Borrisokane Road, I know I went on about this at the last meeting as well, but I had a parent on to me whose child was very nearly hit crossing this road going down to the shop,\u201d Cllr Morgan Walsh said.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ve said time and time again, these speed limit signs are in the wrong place, there couldn\u2019t possibly be an 80kmh sign on one side of the road, and 50kmh on the other,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
“This is a majorly big issue and I know a ramp going into the estate is going to be done, but it\u2019s just not good enough. The Borrisokane Road at the moment is a deathtrap, people are speeding on it, and they\u2019re allowed to because there\u2019s an 80kmh sign there coming up to a housing estate,\u201d the Labour Party councillor added.<\/p>\n
Now, Cllr Morgan Walsh has confirmed that the speed limit sign has been removed and relocated elsewhere on the Borrisokane Road.<\/p>\n
“The 80km\/h limit has been moved further out, well beyond the entrance to Drummin Village,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
“Traffic approaching the estate must now slow down much earlier, making it safer for residents and children crossing to the shop.<\/p>\n
“This removes the dangerous \u201850kmh on one side, 80kmh on the other\u2019 confusion I previously raised,\u201d the Labour Party councillor added.<\/p>\n
However, the relocation of the speed limit sign isn\u2019t all that Cllr Morgan Walsh is campaigning for, adding that the work doesn\u2019t stop just because the sign has been moved.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ve described this stretch as a “deathtrap” in the past, and while this relocation is a huge win for the community, the work doesn’t stop here. I\u2019ll be keeping the pressure on the council to ensure the planned safety ramps are installed as soon as possible,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Thanking residents for raising their concerns, Cllr Morgan Walsh said that the voices of the people do make a difference.<\/p>\n
“A huge thank you to the concerned parents and residents who kept me informed. Your voices really made the difference,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
