The video is understood to have been captured yesterday afternoon (Friday 13th February) on the Cork Road in Carrigaline<\/a>. It shows the view from a vehicle heading towards the town’s centre as it approaches a pedestrian crossing near a petrol station, where two young people are waiting to cross the road.<\/p>\n The footage then shows a Bus \u00c9ireann<\/a> vehicle on the 220 route approaching the lights as they turn amber. A few seconds later, they turn red, and the bus continues driving and passes through the pedestrian crossing. The young people wait for a green man to appear before crossing the road themselves shortly afterwards. It is clear from the video that the were never at risk but the footage has caused some anger – and debate – amongst locals in the area.<\/p>\n The footage was shared on the popular Carrigaline Noticeboard Facebook group<\/a> yesterday evening and sparked some outrage among locals. Some flagged that people breaking red lights was a known issue in the area, with one person writing: “It’s a regular occurrence cars driving through a red light at that crossing.<\/p>\n A Bus \u00c9ireann vehicle passing through a red light in Carrigaline<\/p>\n Another added: “It’s happened a couple of times while crossing at the traffic lights at the end of Kilmoney Rd. Cars have driven through a red light while the green man was up (so definitely not just after turning red), both times I was half across the road, once I was with my son.” Others praised the children for making the right call and waiting until it was safe to cross.<\/p>\n However, there were some voices pointing out that the lights in question – and that stretch of road – seem to catch out or confuse a fair few drivers. And there was also some sympathy for bus drivers in Cork – who have been under pressure to keep to timetables as Bus Eireann has faced severe criticism for the performance of their network. In December of 2023, CorkBeo revealed that Bus Eireann bosses had instructed drivers to drive past bus stops where people were waiting<\/a>, if it meant they could keep to their timetable.<\/p>\n Cork Beo has reached out to Bus \u00c9ireann for comment about the incident.<\/p>\n This dashcam video was captured on the same road and just a short distance away from where tragic schoolboy Andr\u00e9 Castro Ladeiro, 8, was knocked down by a pick-up truck<\/a> in August 2023. He was out on a family cycle at the time and was struck by the vehicle at a pedestrian crossing.
