{"id":298672,"date":"2026-02-15T01:54:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T01:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/298672\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T01:54:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T01:54:09","slug":"cork-woman-awaiting-sentencing-over-e280k-drug-seizure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/298672\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork woman awaiting sentencing over \u20ac280k drug seizure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">The seizure of a \u20ac280,000 stash of cocaine in a car on the M8 motorway at Riverstown, Glanmire, last August, will result in the sentencing of a 31-year-old woman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The woman has signed a plea of guilty to her part in the crime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Ellen Tobin, of 179 Comeragh Park, The Glen, Cork, admitted offences, the most serious of which was possession of drugs for sale or supply at a time when its value exceeded \u20ac13,000 \u2014 the threshold which allows for a minimum sentence of 10 years unless there are exceptional circumstances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The case against the defendant relates to a drug detection by garda\u00ed that occurred on August 11, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Ms Tobin was represented in Cork Circuit Criminal Court by Marjorie Farrelly, defence senior counsel, who applied for the preparation of both a prison governor\u2019s report and a probation report on the accused in advance of sentencing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Ms Farrelly said that the defendant had a difficulty with cocaine at the time that the offence was committed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Helen Boyle adjourned sentencing until May 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">So far, no evidence has been given in relation to the background circumstances which gave rise to the charges being brought under the Misuse of Drugs Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">It is anticipated that this will be outlined at the sentencing hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The seizure of a \u20ac280,000 stash of cocaine in a car on the M8 motorway at Riverstown, Glanmire,&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":298673,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[2246,79,54,61,60,43],"class_list":{"0":"post-298672","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-ireland","8":"tag-cork-court","9":"tag-cork-news","10":"tag-courts","11":"tag-ie","12":"tag-ireland","13":"tag-news"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/298672","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=298672"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/298672\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/298673"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=298672"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=298672"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=298672"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
