A farm labourer who was caught driving while disqualified and without a licence had a problem with drink and drugs which led to a number of convictions, the district court has heard.<\/p>\n
Sergeant Trish O\u2019Sullivan told Macroom District Court that garda\u00ed received an automatic number plate recognition alert regarding a blue Suzuki Liana car and pulled the vehicle over at Coolcower, Macroom, at 10.48am on October 16, 2025.<\/p>\n
The driver of the vehicle was 31-year-old Greg Coleman of Dromduff Cottage, Dromduff, Macroom. Coleman had no insurance and had been disqualified from driving for four years on September 6, 2023, also for driving without insurance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The court heard that Coleman had 14 previous convictions including three for driving without insurance.<\/p>\n
Defence solicitor Jack Purcell said his client was a hard-working farm labourer who previously \u201chad a problem with drink and drugs\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said Coleman had been drug-free for \u201cabout a year\u201d and was a \u201cvery hard-working man\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Judge Joanne Carroll said it was very unfortunate that a conviction would would mean a further disqualification for Coleman. She asked the Probation Service to produce a probation report on Coleman and ordered him to undertake two random drug tests.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She also asked garda\u00ed to confirm at the next hearing if Coleman had come to any further garda attention.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Judge Carroll remanded Coleman on continuing bail to appear again on June 17, 2026.<\/p>\n
