Ana Parra was 20 when she first met her estranged half brother, Daniel Parra \u2013 but the chemistry was immediate.<\/p>\n

Now the Spanish pair, who have welcomed two children together, are campaigning to reform the law so they can wed legally.<\/p>\n

Ana had always been aware she had a half brother out there. During her childhood, she knew her father had left her to start a life with another woman, with whom he’d fathered children.<\/p>\n

Daniel was one of those children, who explained: “Someone had told me that maybe I had a sister out there, but my father never told me, it was something he wanted to hide.”<\/p>\n

Ana, eager to meet her sibling, found Daniel through Facebook and suggested they get together. They describe it as love at first sight, reports the Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We didn’t want to realise it,” Ana said, “we were angry with ourselves because it was hard to admit and break that taboo – we are siblings even though we didn’t feel that way.”<\/p>\n

Their initial kiss happened at a party. Ana said: “We were partying, we approached each other slowly and gave each other our first kiss.”<\/p>\n

Ana recalled feeling “ashamed” of what had happened, but Daniel characterised the moment as life-changing: “That kiss broke all barriers, marked a before and after, it was like a reality check.”<\/p>\n

Several days afterwards, they organised to meet again, though were hesitant to acknowledge the romantic attraction.<\/p>\n

Daniel said: “Imagine liking a girl and, for a moral reason, being forbidden to be with her. It’s really hard to deal with.”<\/p>\n

It wasn’t until a getaway to London, where the pair felt they could behave as a couple without scrutiny, that they chose to make their relationship public.<\/p>\n

Ana said: “That was the first time we can say that we behaved, in public, like a real couple. We went out to dinner, we took walks. It was like an explosion of freedom.”<\/p>\n

Strikingly, the pair opted to appear jointly on television, with Anna explaining: “We didn’t feel like telling everyone our story one by one, so that’s why we decided to tell it this way.”<\/p>\n

Yet they faced waves of online vitriol regarding their incestuous relationship. “There are people who have written to us on social media telling us that we’re going to burn in hell,” said Ana.<\/p>\n

This hasn’t discouraged the sibling-lovers, who now share two children. Both youngsters, they maintain, are “perfectly healthy”, notwithstanding the increased risk of recessive conditions given the parents’ genetic connection.<\/p>\n

In Spain, consensual incest isn’t illegal. Nevertheless, Spanish Civil Code prohibits marriage between blood relatives.<\/p>\n

Daniel and Ana are campaigning to overturn this and hold out hope that, eventually, they’ll gain the right to wed.<\/p>\n

“Societies must advance and not cling to traditionalism,” Ana stated. “Homosexuals were also not allowed to marry and now they can.<\/p>\n

“We love each other and that is what should prevail. We are not harming anyone.
