{"id":301708,"date":"2026-02-17T01:20:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-17T01:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/301708\/"},"modified":"2026-02-17T01:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T01:20:10","slug":"ecuadorean-shrimp-sales-rebound-in-2025-surpass-oil-exports-producers-association","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/301708\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecuadorean shrimp sales rebound in 2025, surpass oil exports-producers&#8217; association"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">GUAYAQUIL, Feb 16 (Reuters) &#8211; Ecuadorean shrimp exports rose 20% year-on-year in 2025 to $8.4 billion, a record driven by a temporary boost from higher U.S. tariffs and \u200csteady sector investment in recent years, the head of the aquaculture industry association \u200csaid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Last year&#8217;s level of revenue made shrimp Ecuador\u2019s top export, overtaking oil in the country long focused on crude. \u200bIn 2024, shrimp sales totaled about $7 billion, according to the government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Tariffs imposed on India, the United States\u2019 biggest shrimp supplier, by the Trump administration helped boost Ecuador&#8217;s sales, as it faced a lower tariff rate, said Jose Antonio Camposano, president of Ecuador\u2019s Aquaculture Chamber.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">\u201cIt was a marginal effect \u200cbecause it only impacted the United \u2060States,\u201d Camposano said in an interview over the weekend. \u201cWe\u2019ll have to see what happens this year with the new tariffs that are imposed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Trump \u2060said early this month he had reached a trade deal with India that sharply cuts U.S. tariffs on Indian goods in exchange for New Delhi easing trade barriers and halting purchases of Russian \u200boil, shifting \u200bthem to the United States and potentially to \u200bVenezuela.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Camposano said China remains Ecuador\u2019s main \u200cshrimp market, buying around 48% of its output. The sector is also working to maintain sales to the United States and the European Union and is expanding in Japan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">\u201cThe United States has grown significantly, currently buying 22% or 23% in recent years, and that is because the sector invested to produce value\u2011added products,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Still, exporters remain cautious about external factors \u200cthis year.
