It’s not often that An Garda Siochana issues advice for such conditions\"14\/07\/2023<\/p>\n

Motorists<\/a> are being urged to take “extra care” as the country is set to be battered by torrential downpours over the coming hours.<\/p>\n

A Met Eireann<\/a> Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow<\/a>, Dublin<\/a>, Kildare<\/a>, Kilkenny<\/a>, Laois<\/a>, Longford<\/a>, Louth<\/a>, Meath<\/a>, Offaly<\/a>, Westmeath<\/a>, Wexford<\/a>, Wicklow<\/a>, Cavan<\/a>, Monaghan<\/a>, Cork<\/a>, Tipperary<\/a>, and Waterford<\/a> will kick in from 11pm tonight for 24 hours.<\/p>\n

In addition, a separate yellow wind alert<\/a> is in place for Wexford, Wicklow, Dublin, Meath, and Louth. The wind warning will come into effect from 11pm and expire at 1pm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In a safety message to drivers, Gardai<\/a> said: “Spells of heavy rain and strong winds will lead to difficult travelling conditions due to expected flooding and poor visibility.<\/p>\n

“With the high volume of rain in recent weeks we are reminding drivers that inappropriate speed (for prevailing weather\/traffic\/road conditions) is a problem as much as exceeding the speed limit is. This not only puts you at risk but also endangers the lives of others around you.<\/p>\n

“As has been seen over the past few weeks there may again be disruption to travel networks, transports routes and difficult travel conditions.”<\/p>\n

They added: “Heavy showers are expected at times, particularly over higher elevation in the south, southeast, east and northeast and Midlands tonight into tomorrow.<\/p>\n

“In response, surface water levels are set to HIGH today and tomorrow in the following areas: Monaghan, Louth, Meath, Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Tipperary, and Waterford.<\/p>\n

“Surface water levels are ELEVATED for Cavan, Cork, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath.”<\/p>\n
