Live DJs played as hundreds of people danced on Exchequer Street to show their opposition to legal action taken against Yamamori Izakaya, a Japanese restaurant that holds music events.<\/p>\n
Its neighbour, the Hoxton Hotel, claims it has been forced to close around a quarter of its rooms because of \u201cnumerous guest complaints about late-night, low-frequency music noise and vibration\u201d.<\/p>\n

Last week, the leaseholder, Trinity Hospitality, sought a court injunction \u201cto reduce excessive noise transfer from Yamamori Izakaya into the hotel\u201d.<\/p>\n
Protest organiser Blew, a local DJ, said the city has lost several late-night venues to \u201chotel chains or apartment buildings\u201d and that social and cultural spaces have been \u201csquashed\u201d.<\/p>\n
She said she is not affiliated with the venue but organised the protest because it is one of two venues left \u201cwhere you can find good music five nights a week, that supports local DJs, where it\u2019s free entry\u201d.<\/p>\n
Blew added: \u201cIt\u2019s really important because they keep a lot of local DJs in business, keep them going.\u201d<\/p>\n
Addressing the crowd on Tuesday night, musician Abdullah Al Bayyari said it was \u201ca perfect chance to highlight that we deserve better\u201d, and called on the Government to start \u201cinvesting in our culture and investing in what matters to us\u201d.<\/p>\n

There has also been a \u201crapid\u201d fall in late-night venues across the country from \u201cthousands to hundreds\u201d.<\/p>\n
Dr Al Bayyari added that the need to \u201cfacilitate large corporations and international companies\u201d was once \u201cunderstandable\u201d, but now the economy is strong, it is time to \u201cshift focus\u201d and \u201cstart pouring investments into the Irish people, Irish businesses, Irish culture, Irish language and history.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement, Trinity Hospitality said it was \u201cnot seeking to close the Yamamori Izakaya restaurant or nightclub\u201d and \u201cthe ultimate goal is to advance a testing and resolution process that will enable a collaborative solution\u201d.<\/p>\n
The leaseholder said it understands the restaurant has long hosted its \u201cIzakaya Basement\u201d late-night events, but when the hotel closed for refurbishment \u201cDJ events started in the ground-floor restaurant five days per week, which lacks the appropriate structural-acoustic measures for nightclub events\u201d.<\/p>\n

In an Instagram post on Tuesday evening, the restaurant said it had commissioned an \u201cexpert\u201d sound report when the hotel was being refurbished in 2023 to \u201cassist them in installing necessary sound attenuation measures\u201d, and that \u201cthe sound levels recorded are considerably lower than typical late-night venues\u201d.<\/p>\n
They say when the hotel raised the problem shortly after it reopened in November 2025, \u201cwe immediately agreed to meet to discuss the issue and requested information about the sound attenuation measures that were installed\u201d but only received that information on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
Trinity Hospitality says it felt it \u201chad no choice but to submit the application as we were concerned the matter was not progressing quickly enough\u201d.<\/p>\n
