\u201cEven Stevens\u201d and \u201cKim Possible\u201d star Christy Carlson Romano took to Instagram on Tuesday to share that she recently tested positive during a cancer screening test.<\/p>\n
Romano informed viewers that she and her husband, Brendan Rooney, had both undergone cancer screenings as her family has a history of the disease. Both of Romano\u2019s parents and maternal grandmother were diagnosed with different types of cancer, her mother being the only one to \u201cbeat it.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the video, Romano explained that her husband\u2019s results came back \u201ccompletely negative\u201d while hers did not. The actress will next get a PET scan, a nuclear imaging test that helps detect diseases like cancer at a cellular level. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Romano also revealed potential insurance issues, saying she is \u201cfighting with companies\u201d to get the scan \u201ccovered.\u201d<\/p>\n
Romano\u2019s video was posted a week after the death of \u201cDawson\u2019s Creek\u201d star James Van Der Beek, who died Feb. 11 of colorectal cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI live in Austin, and I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch. His family\u2019s amazing. He\u2019s a pillar of our community in Texas,\u201d Romano said. \u201cThey always were raising money for the most amazing charities, and he\u2019s not with us anymore. Cancer is everywhere. Which is why I got this test.\u201d<\/p>\n
Romano added that she was in \u201cdisbelief\u201d about the results and aimed to \u201cnot think about it much,\u201d while focusing on her creative projects, which include a recently filmed movie and her upcoming memoir.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s time to have a strong sense of faith and know that it\u2019s in God\u2019s hands \u2014 most of it,\u201d said Romano. \u201cI\u2019m sure people think I\u2019m overreacting, but I\u2019m not, because cancer is pretty serious, and I have two little girls.\u201d<\/p>\n
Romano promised viewers she would \u201ckeep fighting for answers\u201d and thanked her family for their support.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now the news is that something is going on. I\u2019m nervous and a bit scared (heck who wouldn\u2019t be!),\u201d Romano stated in her caption, before adding that she was initially hesitant to post the video, but wanted to encourage others to get screened.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s keep the good vibes going and I will keep you all posted as I get more information,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n
In addition to appearing on the Disney Channel\u2019s \u201cEven Stevens,\u201d and voicing the titular character from \u201cKim Possible,\u201d Romano hosts several podcasts, including \u201cVulnerable,\u201d where she interviews former child stars.<\/p>\n
