Arsenal legend Paul Merson insists the Gunners\u2019 2-2 draw against Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday night has \u201chalf-scared\u201d him that they won\u2019t win the title.<\/p>\n
The Gunners let a two-goal lead slip on Wednesday with goals from Bukayo Saka and Piero Hincapie putting them in a comfortable position with just 34 minutes left to play.<\/p>\n
But Wolves hit back with a spectacular curling effort from Hugo Bueno, who scored his first Premier League goal, before a mix up between David Raya and Gabriel Magalhaes allowed\u00a0Tom Edozie to strike the ball towards goal with Riccardo Calafiori bundling it over his own line.<\/p>\n
That result means Manchester City can close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal<\/a> to just two points when they play Newcastle United on Saturday.<\/p>\n Man City now also have the title in their hands as they still have to face Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in April and Merson is getting worried.<\/p>\n Speaking after Arsenal\u2019s latest setback, Merson said: \u201cManchester City\u00a0now have\u00a0Newcastle\u00a0and\u00a0Leeds\u00a0and you\u2019d take that over\u00a0Tottenham\u00a0and\u00a0Chelsea.<\/p>\n READ:\u00a0Anatomy of a Bottle Job: Eight factors to separate the true choke from a mere collapse<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI wouldn\u2019t want to be in\u00a0Arsenal\u2019s shoes if it [miss out on the title] happens again.<\/p>\n \u201cI was quite shocked by\u00a0Mikel Arteta\u2019s post-match interview then. It\u2019s the first time, really, that I\u2019ve seen him not majorly positive.<\/p>\n \u201cUsually, he comes out, \u2018We\u2019ve done this, we\u2019ve done that\u2019, and he\u2019ll be saying, \u2018Oh, we deserved it here, they deserved it here\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cInstead of coming out saying, \u2018We\u2019re five points clear, as long as we don\u2019t get beaten by Manchester City, we win the league\u2019, but it wasn\u2019t like that, though.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a bit worried with that interview. You can only do so much to the team and when you\u2019re watching that, there\u2019s something missing. I can\u2019t put my finger on it but there\u2019s something missing.<\/p>\n \u201cSomething is missing and I wouldn\u2019t want to be in their shoes if they don\u2019t win the league this year.\u201d<\/p>\n MORE ARSENAL COVERAGE ON F365\u2026 Later on his assessment, Merson recalled something Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira said to him after the Gunners lost to Manchester United last month.<\/p>\n Merson added: \u201cIf they don\u2019t win the league this year, I remember\u00a0Patrick Vieira\u00a0saying before the Manchester United game, when he was on with Roy Keane, he said it was now or never.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m starting to think that too now. I was very bullish about Arsenal winning the league. That\u2019s half-scared me tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n Reflecting on their performance, Arsenal winger Saka said:\u00a0\u201cYeah, it\u2019s very flat.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re very disappointed with the result and especially with the way we played in the second half.
