Manchester United starlet Harry Amass has reportedly suffered a far worse injury than initially revealed after the 18-year-old defender returned to Carrington this week.<\/p>\n
A Cruel Twist<\/p>\n
Amass<\/a> was enjoying a breakout season in the Championship after spending the first half of the campaign on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, before joining Norwich City in the January transfer window.<\/p>\n The left-back endured a difficult start to life in the Steel City, but quickly established himself as a rare bright spot for the Owls amid a precarious backdrop of financial struggles off the pitch.<\/p>\n Amass won back-to-back Player of the Month awards<\/a> in November and December, despite Ruben Amorim \u2013 who was sacked by INEOS at the beginning of January \u2013 publicly stating he was struggling in the Championship.<\/p>\n These comments by the Portuguese coach are understood to have angered United\u2019s hierarchy<\/a>, given the club\u2019s tradition of backing academy players to become first-team stars.<\/p>\n Wednesday were keen to keep him for the second half of the season. However, United decided a switch to Norwich, who utilise a back four under Belgian boss Philippe Clement, would be best for his development, after lining up as a wing-back at Hillsborough.<\/p>\n The youngster completed the move<\/a> to Carrow Road on January 24, making his debut off the bench against table-toppers Coventry City two days later.<\/p>\n But in a cruel twist of fate, Amass then suffered a \u201cserious\u201d hamstring injury<\/a> in training with the Canaries the same week, with Clement revealing he would be \u201cout for a long time\u201d.<\/p>\n United Return<\/p>\n It was decided the defender\u2019s recovery would be best served by a return to Carrington, to enable United\u2019s medical team to assess him and plan a rehabilitation programme.<\/p>\n Initially, it was hoped he would still be able to play some part this year.
