{"id":307856,"date":"2026-02-20T10:39:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T10:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/307856\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T10:39:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T10:39:08","slug":"running-cork-barber-shop-may-have-given-man-opportunity-to-deal-cannabis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/307856\/","title":{"rendered":"Running Cork barber shop may have given man &#8216;opportunity to deal cannabis&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">Running a barbershop on Barrack Street in Cork city may have given a 30-year-old man the opportunity to deal cannabis, a sentencing judge remarked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Sin\u00e9ad Behan made this comment as she sentenced Boris Ivanov to a period of two years in jail, but fully suspended, at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The young man pleaded guilty to having cannabis for sale at a premises on Barrack Street, Cork, and money-laundering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Boris Ivanov with an address at Barrack Street, Cork, appeared at Cork Circuit Criminal Court where his barrister Niamh Stewart said he cooperated with the investigation and had no previous convictions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">She said the defendant had come from Bulgaria 18 years ago and had a reasonably successful business as a barber.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\n            \u201cHe has not come to the attention of the guards since this was detected three years ago and he is unlikely to come to attention again,\u201d\u00a0\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Ms Stewart suggested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Detective Garda Darren Twomey agreed with that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The first charge states that he was in possession of cannabis on February 15 2023 for sale or supply to others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The second count is of money-laundering of \u20ac1,700 cash where he was in possession of cash, the proceeds of criminal activity, on the same date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Ms Stewart said Mr Ivanov admitted that the \u20ac1,700 was the proceeds of drug-dealing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Running a barbershop on Barrack Street in Cork city may have given a 30-year-old man the opportunity to&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":307857,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[4257,79,61,60,43],"class_list":["post-307856","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-cork-business","tag-cork-news","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/307856","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=307856"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/307856\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/307857"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=307856"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=307856"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=307856"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
