David Moyes did not quite get his facts right when claiming Liverpool have spent more on one player than Everton<\/a> have on their entire squad.<\/p>\n

Liverpool enjoyed a statement summer that has seen outsiders focus solely on the \u00a3446.2 million spent, rather than considering the entire picture of also recouping \u00a3216 million in sales.<\/p>\n

Liverpool twice broke the British transfer record, first for Florian Wirtz<\/a> (\u00a3116m) and then Alexander Isak<\/a> (\u00a3125m) as the club seeks to build on their Premier League<\/a> success.<\/p>\n

To his credit, Moyes recognised Liverpool\u2019s success and spending power supplemented their ability to spend big, but his claim that Isak cost more than Everton<\/a>\u2018s squad is wide of the mark.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to earn the right to,\u201d Moyes told reporters after being asked if he\u2019s envious. \u201cFirst of all, you have to win and you have to be in the big competitions which makes the money.<\/p>\n

\u201cI found at West Ham<\/a>, three years in Europe allowed us to spend money, allowed us to bring money in, so from that point of view Liverpool are entitled to do it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard Arne defending himself, that he\u2019s brought in a lot of money as well, which he rightly has done.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I still think they\u2019ve spent more on one player than we\u2019ve spent on the whole squad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not exactly true though, is it Moyes? <\/p>\n

Everton\u2019s summer transfer spend: \u00a3122 million<\/p>\n

Isak cost \u00a3125 million, we can all recognise it is an eye-watering figure, but Everton<\/a> spent close to that in the summer, let alone for the entire squad.<\/p>\n

Tyler Dibling (\u00a342m), Thierno Barry (\u00a327m), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (\u00a328m), Carlos Alcaraz (\u00a312.6m), Adam Aznou (\u00a38m) and Mark Travers (\u00a34m) were all signed for \u00a3121.6 million.<\/p>\n

That does not account for the loan signing of Jack Grealish or the players in the squad before the summer.<\/p>\n

With Everton<\/a> recouping just \u00a36 million in sales, they had a net spend of \u00a3116 million, compared to Liverpool\u2019s \u00a3230.2 million.<\/p>\n
