The stars of \u201cThe View\u201d clashed with guest host and reality personality Savannah Chrisley after she insisted on Thursday that President Donald Trump is not a racist.<\/p>\n
The heated debate was sparked by a discussion about Trump\u2019s approach to DEI after moderator Whoopi Goldberg said the president \u201cis being accused of sending mixed messages\u201d amid Black History Month.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the White House hosted a Black History Month event<\/a> where the president praised the late Rev. Jesse Jackson<\/a> and shouted out some of his prominent Black supporters, including boxer Mike Tyson and rapper Nicki Minaj<\/a>.<\/p>\n The event came less than a month after the Trump administration took down a slavery exhibit<\/a> in Philadelphia, and less than two weeks after the president drew bipartisan outrage for posting a racist video on social media<\/a> that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as primates in a jungle.<\/p>\n Chrisley, a Trump supporter who was stepping in for co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin<\/a> while she\u2019s on maternity leave<\/a>, said she finds it \u201chard\u201d to watch people label Trump as racist.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve seen him firsthand,\u201d Chrisley said, noting that Trump has been friends with Black people.<\/p>\n Co-host Sunny Hostin swiftly chimed in: \u201cSo he has a Black friend? He\u2019s a racist.\u201d<\/p>\n Goldberg went on to elaborate on Trump\u2019s targeting of \u201cDEI programs with executive orders,\u201d<\/a> while also pointing to him supporting the death penalty for the \u201cExonerated Five\u201d<\/a> and being sued for racial discrimination<\/a> in the rental of apartments from his real estate company.<\/p>\n Hostin then jumped back in to again accuse Trump of racism.<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s call a thing a thing: Donald Trump is a racist. There\u2019s no question in my mind,\u201d she said. \u201cThe most recent thing that he did [was] posting on Truth Social [a video of] the Obamas depicted as apes in \u2018The Lion King,\u2019 [when] there are no apes in \u2018The Lion King.\u2019 That was a racist act.
