Join us on Monday, March 2, for an exclusive, intimate talk with artist and Hyperallergic contributor Damien Davis<\/a>, whose distinctive voice challenges the power structures and inequities of the contemporary art world.<\/p>\n

As an artist whose work explores complex histories and cultural signifiers, Davis brings a unique, dual perspective to his critical essays. His writing for Hyperallergic has sparked vital discourse on pressing issues, including:<\/p>\n

Damien Davis<\/a> is a Newark-based artist and educator originally from Crowley, Louisiana, and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. His practice explores cultural representation and identity through a distinctive visual language that recontextualizes symbols from diverse cultures, challenging historical narratives and inviting new interpretations.<\/p>\n

Davis has exhibited widely, including at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, and Museum of Arts and Design. He has been recognized with the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Community Engagement Grant and has participated in residencies at Project for Empty Space, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the Sugar Hill Children\u2019s Museum of Art and Storytelling, among others.<\/p>\n

Davis also holds a BFA in Studio Art and an MA in Visual Arts Administration from New York University. His work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Hyperallergic, and Frieze magazine.<\/p>\n

Hakim Bishara is Hyperallergic\u2019s Editor-in-Chief. He is a recipient of the 2019 Andy Warhol Foundation and Creative Capital Arts Writers Grant, and he holds an MFA in Art Writing from the School of Visual Arts in New York.<\/p>\n
