{"id":309993,"date":"2026-02-21T14:54:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T14:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/309993\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T14:54:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T14:54:06","slug":"animal-health-ireland-urges-donegal-farmers-to-act-fast-on-bvd-eradication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/309993\/","title":{"rendered":"Animal Health Ireland urges Donegal farmers to act fast on BVD eradication"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Animal Health Ireland (AHI) is urging all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegallive.ie\/search?q=Donegal&amp;idcanale=6&amp;idcanalericerca=6&amp;sortElement=data_pubblicazione,true&amp;page=1&amp;sortDefault=false\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donegal<\/a> farmers and the wider agri-industry to work together to \u201cfinish the job\u201d on Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) eradication.<\/p>\n<p>AHI said Ireland is now closer than ever to achieving BVD freedom and key to this major milestone is acting quickly to identify and remove remaining positive animals.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the commitment and leadership shown by farmers over the past decade, Ireland has made remarkable progress in tackling BVD. The number of infected breeding herds has fallen dramatically from a peak of over 11 per cent to just approximately 200 herds nationally during 2025.<\/p>\n<p>However, AHI warns that speed is now of the essence if Ireland is to move decisively towards BVD freedom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFarmers in Donegal have played a huge role in getting us to this point, and we are very close now,\u201d said Dr Maria Guelbenzu, AHI BVD Programme Manager. \u201cThis is a testament to collective effort, responsibility and persistence across the sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne big push this year, starting at the peak spring calving season, can bring us extremely close to BVD freedom.
