The five members of\u00a0Radiohead<\/a>\u00a0have formed a new\u00a0private\u00a0limited company, suggesting the band\u00a0are\u00a0planning something in the near future.<\/p>\n

On several occasions in the past, the band have pre-empted significant activity by establishing their own legal entities, including in March last year when\u00a0a new LLP was set up<\/a>\u00a0that eventually resulted in\u00a0the band\u2019s European tour\u00a0at the end of the year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Thursday (February 19), the five members of Radiohead\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Thom Yorke<\/a>,\u00a0Jonny Greenwood<\/a>, Colin Greenwood, Ed O\u2019Brien<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Philip Selway<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0were all appointed as directors of a new private limited company named Futile Endeavours Limited that has been officially registered in the UK \u2013 see it on Companies House here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There is no confirmation of what this suggests the\u00a0band\u00a0are planning, but it is a business arrangement that\u00a0could set the table for a future new release or reissue project.<\/p>\n

The band\u2019s last album was \u2018A Moon Shaped Pool<\/a>\u2019, which was released in May 2016, just months after the band registered the Dawn Chorus LLP. More recently, they\u00a0did the same with the Spin\u00a0With\u00a0A\u00a0Grin LLP, which came six months before the announcement of the \u2018Kid A Mnesia<\/a>\u2019 reissue in 2021, and the\u00a0Self Help\u00a0Tapes LLP in 2022, ahead of announcing the debut album by\u00a0The Smile<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Radiohead\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0operating\u00a0independently since parting ways with EMI\/Parlophone after 2003\u2019s \u2018Hail To The Thief<\/a>\u2019. They founded\u00a0Xurbia\u00a0Xendless\u00a0in 2007 before releasing \u2018In Rainbows<\/a>\u2019 in the groundbreaking \u2018pay what you want\u2019 format via their website. That album and\u00a0subsequent\u00a0releases have been handled in physical formats in partnership with XL Recordings.<\/p>\n

They played 20 shows in November and December last year, including four at The O2 in London.\u00a0In a glowing five-star review,\u00a0NME\u00a0described their first London show as \u201cthe cinematic, arty yin to Oasis\u2019 hedonistic yang\u201d<\/a>\u00a0adding: \u201cWhat a show: a visceral energy, a tasteful spectacle, all delivered with a generosity of spirit, Yorke in full rockstar mode as the band trade places to tend to each corner of the venue. For a band once embarrassed by the notion of \u2018arena rock\u2019,\u00a0nobody does it better. A new album and another night like this\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0come soon enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jonny Greenwood has since spoken about the chances of\u00a0new music<\/a>. Speaking about the tour, he said:\u00a0\u201cIt was great to revisit songs that we always felt were good and to find lots of other people now agree with us.\u00a0And it was really nice to be playing and listening to Thom again.\u00a0But I found it strange not to be doing anything new on the tour.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that all members were \u201cdoing new music elsewhere now\u201d and said he had \u201cno idea\u201d when they might release\u00a0new music\u00a0together again.\u00a0\u201cI mean, I\u2019m surprised that the tour actually happened and that we all enjoyed it so much,\u201d he added. \u201cBut venues get booked so far in advance. To do another we would have to decide now, and even then it wouldn\u2019t happen for 18 months.\u201d<\/p>\n
