{"id":311502,"date":"2026-02-22T13:44:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T13:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/311502\/"},"modified":"2026-02-22T13:44:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T13:44:08","slug":"go-back-to-drawing-board-questions-raised-over-plans-for-plaza-in-limerick-village","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/311502\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Go back to drawing board\u2019 &#8211; Questions raised over plans for \u2018plaza\u2019 in Limerick village"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>QUESTIONS have been raised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/309\/politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">councillors<\/a> over plans to upgrade the former post office and village square in Croom.<\/p>\n<p>Councillors were given a presentation on the project, which includes creating a new \u2018plaza\u2019 and converting the old post office into a tourism and community craft hub.<\/p>\n<p>At the February meeting of the Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District, councillors raised concerns about the impact on parking and the condition of the former post office which has been vacant for a number of years.<\/p>\n<p>They also asked council officials to clarify if parts of the building could be knocked or altered, given its protected status.<\/p>\n<p>READ ALSO |\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/tv---radio\/2018520\/top-limerick-garda-recalls-grim-discovery-of-two-bodies-by-burglars-in-new-rte-documentary.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Top Limerick garda recalls grim discovery of two bodies by burglars in new RT\u00c9 documentary<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cllr John O&#8217;Donoghue said he was \u201cdelighted\u201d to hear the square is finally being looked at as the area is currently \u201cnot in a great state.\u201d However, he raised concerns over roads and traffic, citing expected increases once the new N\/M20 is built.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted the layout of the adjacent T-junction and pointed out that Bus \u00c9ireann will not provide additional services in the village due to traffic congestion.<\/p>\n<p>He also questioned the impact on parking, saying there is already \u201cvery little parking\u201d in Croom.
