Christie\u2019s has seen exceptional success with the finest examples of Impressionism, particularly those of Monet\u2019s oeuvre, within the context of the 20th Century Evening Sale. Painted in 1891 with expressive brushwork and an Impressionist interplay of color and light, this canvas exemplifies the sensual beauty for which the artist is renowned,\u201d Cyanne Chutkow, Christie\u2019s deputy chairman of Impressionist and Modern art, said in a press statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIn [Chagall\u2019s] monumental, vibrantly colored 1966 work Le songe du Roi David, the artist employs the scale of a grand history painting to enact his multi-figure magnum opus, a dreamscape centered around the pertinent figure of King David, a favored leitmotif of the artist. Painted in 1949, Le soleil rouge offers a poetic vision of romantic love. It was built in 1990 and built a renowned collection, including seven of Mark Rothko\u2019s \u201cSeagram Murals\u201d and paintings by Cy Twombly, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, Claude Monet, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and Robert Ryman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLast December, the museum\u2019s board of directors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/dic-corp-decides-to-downsize-and-relocate-japans-dic-museum-1234728794\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced that it had decided to \u201cdownsize and relocate\u201d<\/a> the institution, including the sale of 25 percent of the 384 artworks that DIC Corporation owns, which are valued at $77.5 million. The museum\u2019s entire collection is 754 artworks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe DIC Company previously stated that it expects the sales of the artworks to \u201cgenerate at least \u00a510 billion [over $63 million] in cash inflow in fiscal year 2025, although this amount may change depending on market conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLast September, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/yusaku-maezawa\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yusaku Maezawa<\/a> posted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/yusaku-maezawa-dic-museum-sell-off-1234716587\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a series of comments on the social media network X<\/a> about the possible sale of artworks from the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cRegarding the closure of the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art, if the collection is to be sold, I hope that they will first approach Japanese buyers so that the many masterpieces do not leave\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/japan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japan<\/a>. I will be waiting,\u201d stated the Japanese billionaire and art collector, who appeared on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-collectors\/top-200-profiles\/yusaku-maezawa\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ARTnews\u00a0Top 200 Collectors list\u00a0<\/a>in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMaezawa also wrote about his sense of responsibility as a collector, saying, \u201cJapanese people need to protect Japan\u2019s traditional things, whether it\u2019s the land, nature, art, or traditional culture, as much as possible. If we sell them off piece by piece for short-term profit, Japan will no longer be Japan.
