S\u00e9amus Flanagan Names Unexpected Pick For Limerick\u2019s Centre Back Role<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Flanagan, who stepped away from the panel over the winter after winning five All-Ireland titles, five Munster medals and an All-Star, acknowledged O\u2019Donoghue\u2019s recent performances but questioned whether Limerick\u2019s defence needs such a protective presence.<\/p>\n Will definitely had a quality game the last two games, he’s played well.<\/p>\n But Will\u2019s type of game is very much sitting in front of that full-back line and protecting them, and he does that brilliantly.<\/p>\n However, S\u00e9amus Flanagan pointed to the strength already present in Limerick\u2019s defensive unit.<\/p>\n You have the likes of Mike Casey, Dan Morrissey, Se\u00e1n Finn and Barry Nash\u2026 all top, top defenders. So does that full-back line require the protection that they\u2019ve been getting? I don\u2019t think it does.<\/p>\n Instead, S\u00e9amus Flanagan believes Cathal O\u2019Neill could bring a different dynamic to the position for Limerick, particularly from an attacking perspective.<\/p>\n I\u2019d love to see Cathal O\u2019Neill inside there. His attacking prowess, he knows as a forward how he\u2019d like his ball delivered in. I think the full-forward line would get ample ball inside.<\/p>\n He suggested O\u2019Neill\u2019s natural instincts could help Limerick transition play quicker, contrasting with the more defensive balance provided by O\u2019Donoghue.<\/p>\n With Will playing there, it\u2019s quite a defensive-minded six.
