{"id":314599,"date":"2026-02-24T11:23:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T11:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/314599\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T11:23:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T11:23:08","slug":"section-of-new-n5-road-to-open-by-easter-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/314599\/","title":{"rendered":"Section of new N5 road to open by Easter &#8211; News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">A section of the new N5 will open by Easter, it has emerged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Roscommon County Council CEO Shane Tiernan confirmed the news at a council meeting this evening, Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Tiernan informed councillors that the Frenchpark bypass is set to open by Easter &#8220;subject to safety verifications being signed off on before then&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He outlined that the exits and the entrances along this portion would have to be controlled for a number of weeks in order for works to be completed and &#8220;fully blended in&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This section of the new road is seven kilometres long.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The N5 project, involving a 33km upgrade of road, runs between the Ballaghaderreen bypass and Scramogue, and will bypass Frenchpark, Tulsk, and Strokestown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Tiernan said that this was \u201ca good news story\u201d and that there may be a formal opening of this Frenchpark section in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Council CEO said he would inform councillors of the exact opening date \u201cas soon as we get clearance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Council Cathaoirleach Liam Callaghan hailed the announcement as &#8220;great news&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A section of the new N5 will open by Easter, it has emerged.
