Dave Grohl<\/a> has revealed that he had \u201cno idea\u201d that his daughter, Violet, had signed a record deal until she told him at dinner.<\/p>\n

The rock giant star has been doing multiple interviews lately as Foo Fighters<\/a> are preparing to release their 12th studio album \u2018Your Favorite Toy\u2019 on April 24<\/a> \u2013 an album Grohl has said will be stacked with \u201cnoisy, loud bangers\u201d that feel like they come from \u201cthe old days\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During a new appearance on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X<\/a>, however, the frontman spoke about his teenage daughter, Violet, launching her own music career, and admitted that he was not involved with the making of her music at all.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter started dropping new music last month, when she shared the David Lynch-inspired \u2018What\u2019s Heaven Without You\u2019 last week<\/a> to mark the first anniversary of the iconic director\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

She then followed this up by announcing that she had signed with Republic Records \/ Island EMI and would be sharing two new songs<\/a>, \u2018Thum\u2019 and \u2018Applefish\u2019.<\/p>\n

Moyles told Grohl that her new music had been named \u2018Record Of The Week\u2019 on Radio X a couple of weeks ago, to which the Foo Fighters frontman was quick to share his high praise for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is amazing. So Violent, my daughter \u2013 she\u2019s 19, about to turn 20 \u2013 she made this album with a producer named Justin Raisen, and she did it on her own,\u201d he began. \u201cShe met the producer, and they would go to the studio every day and she would send me songs when she was finished. But I had absolutely nothing to do with this record at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that while he would have loved to be more hands-on with the project, he was left unaware of the massive progress she was making until she sat down and told him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had no idea. I knew she was looking to sign a record deal, and she was like, \u2018Hey dad, can I come over for dinner tonight?\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, sure. What do you want me to make?\u2019 And she came over and told me, like, \u2018I signed my record deal today.\u2019 I\u2019m just like, \u2018Oh my God!\u2019 So, I\u2019m totally uninvolved,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m the dad who wants to be there and know everything. And she\u2019s just totally doing her own thing. It\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grohl went on to describe Violet\u2019s upcoming record as \u201camazing\u201d and say that she is \u201cso incredibly talented and has such great taste in music\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also said that seeing her work on new music made him feel \u201creally inspired me to make\u201d the new Foo Fighters record.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really did. The way that they made that record and the energy of it, I was like, \u2018Oh, man. I\u2019ve just been inspired by my daughter\u2019s debut album.\u2019 It\u2019s cool,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In late 2024, it was reported that Violet was working on her debut solo album<\/a> with Raisen (Kim Gordon<\/a>, Charli XCX<\/a>, Sky Ferreira<\/a>). Her father has also previously expressed his desire to appear on Violet\u2019s first record<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The two of them have worked together musically before, and released a cover version of \u2018Nausea\u2019 \u2013 originally by Los Angeles punks X \u2013 in 2021.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

She began hitting the road with Foo Fighters in 2018<\/a> too, providing backing vocals at numerous gigs. She also performed with them at the tribute concerts<\/a> held for late drummer Taylor Hawkins<\/a> in 2022, and after featuring on the band\u2019s 2023 song \u2018Show Me How\u2019,<\/a> she appeared with them at that year\u2019s Glastonbury to perform the track<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last year, the surviving members of Nirvana<\/a> \u2013 Dave, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear \u2013 reunited for a four-song set at the Fire Aid benefit concert in LA<\/a>, and Violet joined for lead vocals on \u2018All Apologies\u2019.<\/p>\n

As for Foo Fighters, the band announced their 12th full-length effort, \u2018Your Favorite Toy\u2019 <\/a>on Thursday (February 19), and shared its massive title track. In a four-star review<\/a>, NME described the song as a \u201cfutureproof rock beast\u201d that is \u201csnarlingly unapologetic\u201d.<\/p>\n

The record is due for release on April 24, following on from 2023\u2019s \u2018But Here We Are\u2019<\/a>. It\u2019ll also contain last year\u2019s \u2018Asking For A Friend\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since they announced news of the album, Grohl has admitted that he found it \u201creally complicated\u201d to continue with the band<\/a> after the unexpected death of Taylor Hawkins in 2022<\/a>, and also shared that he thinks every one of their albums could have been their \u201clast\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The band will head out on the road in the UK and Europe this year for a run of huge stadium shows<\/a>, and are set to play some North American dates over the summer and autumn<\/a>. They\u2019ve announced an Australia and New Zealand leg, too, for 2026 and 2027<\/a>. Find any remaining tickets here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Over the past week, the band have played their new single \u2018Your Favorite Toy\u2019 for the first time<\/a> on The Graham Norton Show, and announced a series of surprise shows taking place across London, Dublin and Manchester this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They kicked off the shows in Dublin <\/a>on Monday (February 23) and used the intimate gig to debut some currently unreleased material from the record.
