Dave Grohl<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0opened up\u00a0about the \u201csuper duper heavy\u201d song he wrote for\u00a0Ozzy Osbourne<\/a>, but ended up recording for Probot.<\/p>\n

Foo Fighters<\/a>\u00a0are preparing\u00a0to release their 12th\u00a0studio album \u2018Your Favorite Toy\u2019\u00a0on April 24<\/a>, an album\u00a0Grohl has said will be stacked with \u201cnoisy, loud bangers\u201d that feel like they come from \u201cthe old days\u201d<\/a>, but it is an even heavier song that\u00a0the\u00a0frontman\u00a0has been reminiscing about.<\/p>\n

In an interview with\u00a0Kerrang Radio,\u00a0he said he\u00a0recalled a time when Ozzy\u2019s wife Sharon was \u201ccalling out to different people\u201d to write songs with the former\u00a0Black Sabbath<\/a>\u00a0singer.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so I wrote this instrumental that was almost like a Melvins<\/a> song, it was super duper heavy, and I thought, this could be so cool if Ozzy sang over it,\u201d Grohl explained. \u201cAnd they never picked it, they never used it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, Grohl said he ended up recording the song himself for his metal side project Probot, who released a self-titled album in 2004. Every track on the album featured a different guest vocalist, and the song in question was \u2018My Tortured Soul\u2019, sung by Eric Wagner of Chicago doom metal band Trouble.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe sang on that track, and it almost kind of has an Ozzy vibe to it,\u201d Grohl added.\u00a0\u201cIt never became an Ozzy song, but\u00a0it\u2019s a killer riff, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another\u00a0Grohl\u00a0song that Osbourne could have\u00a0sung\u00a0on but turned down was \u2018Stacked Actors\u2019,\u00a0a track from Foo Fighters\u2019 third album \u2018There Is Nothing Left\u00a0To\u00a0Lose\u2019 in 1999.\u00a0He did, however,\u00a0play with the late Foos drummer\u00a0Taylor Hawkins<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0three tracks\u00a0for\u00a0his final studio album \u2018Patient Number 9<\/a>\u2019\u00a0in 2022: \u2018Parasite\u2019,\u00a0\u2018Mr\u00a0Darkness\u2019 and \u2018God Only Knows\u2019.<\/p>\n

Foo Fighters have released the lead single and title track of their new album, which NME has awarded four stars<\/a>\u00a0and said:\u00a0\u201cFoos have certainly turned up the heat, shifting to a more thrilling gear when they could cruise down the slow lane to keep things rolling across the stadium and festival circuit this summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite having made headlines in recent years for\u00a0drummer squabbles<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0infidelity<\/a>, their comeback single is snarlingly unapologetic. This is not a cap-in-hand call for peace, love and understanding. It\u2019s a middle finger statement of intent: \u201cNah\u00a0nah\u00a0nah!\u201d<\/p>\n

The band are playing three intimate shows in the UK and Ireland this week<\/a>, with\u00a0the Dublin show going down on Monday<\/a>\u00a0(February 23) and London to follow tonight (February 25) and Manchester (February 27).<\/p>\n
