Big Bear\u2019s famous bald eagles Jackie and Shadow welcomed a new egg on Tuesday, about a month after ravens destroyed the two eggs Jackie laid earlier this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis afternoon, Jackie laid the first egg of the second clutch,\u201d Friends of Big Bear Valley wrote on Facebook, sharing a video of the eagle tending to the newly laid egg<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The group said Jackie showed early signs before laying, including staying pancaked on the nest for longer periods and drooping her wings, which exposed more of her white tail feathers.<\/p>\n

The third egg of the season may not be the last. FOBBV says Jackie typically lays two to three eggs per clutch. \u201cIf she is going to lay a second egg, we will start watching for the above signs on Friday,\u201d the post said. The nonprofit provides a live YouTube stream<\/a> of the Big Bear bald eagle nest.<\/p>\n

The pair\u2019s first two eggs of the season were breached in late January<\/a> by a raven while the eagles were away from the nest. \u201cJackie and Shadow were away for a few hours today when the ravens came, maybe they knew on some level and this is nature\u2019s way of resetting things,\u201d FOBBV said at the time.<\/p>\n

Last spring, Jackie and Shadow successfully raised two eaglets, Sunny and Gizmo. A third chick, Misty, died during a winter storm.<\/p>\n
