A 54-year-old man has been brought before the district court in Tralee, Co Kerry, charged with the murder of Michael Gaine.<\/p>\n
Former US soldier Mike Kelley, with an address at Chapel Street in Tralee, was remanded in custody.<\/p>\n
Detective Sergeant Mark O’Sullivan gave evidence at the two-minute hearing of charging the accused at 3.06pm this afternoon.<\/p>\n
He said that Mr Kelley made no reply when the charge was put to him.<\/p>\n
On the application of court presenter Chris Manton, Judge David Waters remanded the accused in custody to be back in court on 4 March for service of a book of evidence.<\/p>\n
There was no application for bail.<\/p>\n
Defence solicitor Pat Mann, who was appointed on free legal aid, said he had explained to his client that bail in a murder case was a matter for the High Court.<\/p>\n
Mr Kelley did not speak during the hearing.<\/p>\n
The court was told that Mr Kelley was living on a \u20ac150-per-week welfare allowance.<\/p>\n
