Cork\u2019s Division 2 National Football League game on Saturday, March 14, at 5pm, has been moved to P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Rinn.<\/p>\n
The Kildare clash had originally been scheduled for SuperValu P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh but has been switched to nearby P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Rinn, where they beat Meath last Sunday, following a request from the management, as revealed by The Echo on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The Rebels drew a crowd of 6,223 to the secondary venue, where the home supporters were a key factor coming down the stretch. John Cleary’s side also beat Donegal in the All-Ireland group stages in 2024 on Boreenmanna Road.<\/p>\n
The venue was updated on the GAA website on Thursday after the Central Competitions Control Committee agreed to the change. Cork are currently on top of Division 2 with a full complement of eight points from four outings.<\/p>\n
They’ve a tough task this Sunday though, when they travel to promotion-chasing Derry, who have won three games on the bounce and hammered Offaly last weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n The cause isn’t helped by the suspension of captain and in-form midfielder Ian Maguire, who received a late red card against Meath and a proposed two-game suspension.\n <\/p>\n
Cork’s last game in Division 2 is away to Tyrone at the end of March. There’s a possibility the campaign could conclude with three teams tied on five wins apiece, which would bring scoring difference into play.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Otherwise, head-to-head results will determine the standings. In that regard, Cork’s victory over Meath could yet prove decisive while beating Derry on the road would all but guarantee the Leesiders a top-two finish and a return to Division 1 for the first time in a decade.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Thursday evening is set to be busy in Cork disciplinary matters as Maguire is expected to contest a proposed two-match ban in front of the Central Hearings Committee.<\/p>\n
