\n\tIt was one year ago, in February 2025, that BLACKPINK<\/a> first teased a new tour, which eventually culminated in the milestone all-arena DEADLINE World Tour, which reached 16 cities and 33 concerts. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe trek wasn\u2019t just an opportunity to dance along to BLACKPINK\u2019s luminous discography, but also to celebrate the individual successes of members JISOO<\/a>, JENNIE<\/a>, ROS\u00c9<\/a> and LISA<\/a>, who all released major solo projects while group activities were on hold.<\/p>\n

\n\tNow, one year later, the girls are back with the new EP also titled DEADLINE marking their first major music release since they hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200<\/a> chart with Born Pink in 2022. Similar to the rollout of their previous chart-topping LP, DEADLINE was previewed by an early summer single \u2014 the Diplo<\/a>-assisted \u201cJUMP,\u201d which peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> this past July \u2014 before fans received the larger project and a new single.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile \u201cJUMP\u201d combined Korean and English lyrics in true K-pop form, the four new tracks in DEADLINE are all in English, marking a new, globally-focused pop chapter for the group to shake the world stage more than ever. Further bolstering the impact are the creatives in the credits like their longtime producer TEDDY, go-to composers like IDO, Danny Chung, and Vince, as well as new collaborators like Coldplay<\/a> frontman Chris Martin<\/a>, KPop Demon Hunters\u2018 breakout songwriter and vocalist EJAE<\/a>, and Top 40 hitmaker Cirkut.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was just earlier this month that TEDDY, EJAE, and IDO all won the Grammy Award for best song written for visual media with \u201cGolden\u201d with that same sparkling synergy coming through across the EP\u2019s different songs.<\/p>\n

\n\tEmpowerment and sticking together as a crew have been key concepts since BLACKPINK\u2019s inception. With that in mind, \u201cMe and my\u201d doesn\u2019t exactly offer anything particularly fresh to the group\u2019s discography, subject-wise or musically. The girls riding effortlessly over the minimal hip-hop beat with vintage horn blasts is satisfying and JENNIE has some of the best lyrics rapping about \u201cpretty privilege\u201d and \u201cWhen I call her bitch \/ that\u2019s a compliment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt also feels like there\u2019s not enough spotlight on JISOO and ROS\u00c9 on this track \u2014 we wish the two BP vocalists had popped out with their own rap verses! That would have been a really special sonic surprise.<\/p>\n

\n\tCo-written by the same woman who inspired millions of listeners by infusing her story into the multi-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 \u201cGolden\u201d \u2014 a.k.a. EJAE of KPop Demon Hunters fame \u2014 \u201cChampion\u201d brings a similarly empowering message.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe track opens with a driving synth-rock-pop production perfect for your workout playlist, but clumsily hops into a \u201cWe Will Rock You\u201d\u2013esque pounding percussion for the chorus. The track risks falling into generic pop territory until the bridge gets a dose of hyperpop and a repetitive \u201cBLACKPINK!\u201d chant, then closes with the final uplifting chorus.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Born Pink standout \u201cTally,\u201d JENNIE spits, \u201cSometimes, I like to go play dirty \/ Just like all of the fuckboys do \/ That\u2019s my choice and there\u2019s no one I\u2019m hurtin\u2019 \/ And that\u2019s not girly\u201d in one of the three explicit tracks on the LP. But BLACKPINK once again flip the expectations and traditional gender roles. JISOO gets one of the best sections of the EP singing, \u201cYou burned the bridge, I\u2019m on fire \/ You set the tone, now I\u2019m louder \/ I don\u2019t like you, I\u2019m just bored \/ How\u2019s it feel now I\u2019m the f\u2014boy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTrue to some of BLACKPINK\u2019s most underrated mid-tempo B-sides like \u201cYou Never Know,\u201d \u201cHappiest Girl in the World\u201d and early single \u201cSTAY,\u201d the quartet musters up a certain kind of musical magic when they step into the brooding, emo headspace that\u2019s so clearly highlighted by \u201cFxxxboy.\u201d It\u2019s the kind of cut that proves that even if big, bombastic K-pop beats are the group\u2019s signature sound, they still shine when things are kept quiet and tender.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn our dream world, one day BLACKPINK performs an acoustic, MTV Unplugged-inspired show that lets the emotions and delivery in \u201cFxxxboy\u201d really shine.<\/p>\n

\n\tDiplo said he jumped at the chance to \u201cmake a K-pop techno trance hardcore summer banger\u201d for BLACKPINK\u2019s 2025 comeback single, and the results did not disappoint. Delivering the forward-thinking innovation that we\u2019ve come to expect from a big BLACKPINK single, \u201cJUMP\u201d sounded like nothing on the global-pop stage, blending hard-style EDM breakdowns with country-tinged pop melodies.<\/p>\n

\n\tNo doubt that unexpected-yet-addictive musical mix helped \u201cJUMP\u201d become BLACKPINK\u2019s longest-running chart hit on both the Billboard Hot 100. The song also achieved the group\u2019s longest chart run on the Pop Airplay chart and became the top-streamed K-pop song by a group in 2025 with both Apple Music and Amazon Music selecting the track as the No. 1 song on their year-end K-pop playlists.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter 10 years together, \u201cGO\u201d remarkably marks the first time all four BLACKPINK members have written on one song together \u2014 and upon first listen, you can tell why everyone was moved to take part on this one.<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom ROS\u00c9\u2019s opening line declaring, \u201cI\u2019m on a mission\/ I\u2019m in control,\u201d there is an emotional kind of urgency, leaving the listener on edge and awaiting the next instruction. With percolating synths and electronica backing ROS\u00c9 and LISA\u2019s angelic singing at the start, JENNIE takes a fiercer tone, announcing, \u201cMarch to the beat of, beat of my drum \/ \u2018Cause when I call you, you\u2019re gonna come\u201d and we\u2019re fully locked in before JISOO boldly instructs, \u201cYou only move \/ When I say so.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe beat drops and we\u2019re dropped in a whirlpool of grinding, turbo-charged synths in one of BLACKPINK\u2019s most innovative breakdowns ever. Like some of their best singles, the track doubles as their own anthem, with the group delivering the \u201cBLACKPINK\u2019ll make ya\u2026GO\u201d hook that will have listeners screaming along to by the song\u2019s end. <\/p>\n

\n\tWhile the song has an undeniable hard edge (best felt on JENNIE and LISA\u2019s raps through the second verse, there is also an obvious softness in the track (ROS\u00c9\u2019s melancholy on the bridge and LISA\u2019s honeyed vocal tone on the first verse), which sums up the duality and range that BLACKPINK set to represent since first introducing their group name. \u201cGO\u201d is not only the best song on DEADLINE, but a truly representative track of BLACKPINK.<\/p>\n
