{"id":320469,"date":"2026-02-27T17:57:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T17:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/320469\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T17:57:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T17:57:08","slug":"couple-who-died-in-waterford-road-collision-remembered-as-wonderful-parents-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/320469\/","title":{"rendered":"Couple who died in Waterford road collision remembered as \u2018wonderful parents\u2019 \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A couple who died in a road-traffic collision in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/waterford\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/waterford\/\">Co Waterford<\/a> last weekend have been remembered at their funeral mass as \u201ctruly wonderful parents\u201d and passionate members of the local hurling community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Brian Frisby and Grace Elliott, both aged in their 40s, died when the car they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a van on the R675 at Robin Hill, Tramore, Co Waterford at lunchtime on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Both were pronounced dead at the scene. A man in his 50s and a teenager were also injured in the collision. Their injuries are not life-threatening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Frisby and Elliott grew up in Co Waterford, but they had been living in Naas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kildare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kildare\/\">Co Kildare<\/a>, with their two sons, Theo and Fionn. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">At their funeral mass on Friday morning, at Church of Our Lady and St David in Naas, Elliott was described as a \u201cdevoted mother\u201d by her sister Laura. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cShe loved and was inspired by our grandmother Maisie who had seven boys. Grace always wanted boys of her own. She was dedicated to her boys since the day they were born,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Her sister had an \u201cinfectious laugh\u201d and was a loving person. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cNone of us want to say goodbye today . . . But we will treasure the memories,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Frisby\u2019s younger brother, Michael, read a message on behalf of their son Fionn, who described his parents as \u201ctwo unreal, loving people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Fionn \u201ccould not put into words what it was like\u201d to have them as parents. He added that if his dad \u201cwas the same age as me now, we\u2019d be serious friends\u201d and \u201cmam was just a true human being\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In Michael\u2019s eulogy, he described his brother as \u201cthe softest, gentlest soul\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cFirst and foremost, he loved his family and then he loved hurling. We were very, very lucky as a family. We had so many happy memories growing up. The love we have for each other is insurmountable,\u201d he said, adding that all members of the family would be there for the couple\u2019s two sons. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Liam Hennessy, chair of Naas GAA\u2019s hurling section, said the club was \u201cin absolute shock at the loss of Brian and Grace\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cWe do not have the words for it. We\u2019re heartbroken. We must remind ourselves how grateful we are to have met two wonderful people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThey were wonderful parents . . . They first joined our club in 2009 with Theo and Fionn by their sides. They went on to be valued mentors . . .
