{"id":320931,"date":"2026-02-28T00:27:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T00:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/320931\/"},"modified":"2026-02-28T00:27:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T00:27:08","slug":"popular-dalkey-swim-spot-vico-baths-to-close-for-essential-repairs-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/320931\/","title":{"rendered":"Popular Dalkey swim spot Vico Baths to close for essential repairs \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">South <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin\u2019s<\/a> Vico Baths is to close for 13 weeks of repair and reopen for the summer season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Victorian-era baths are among the most popular in the country and loved by sea swimmers and celebrities alike. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">They are also located in what has been called the Irish \u201cBel \u00c9ire\u201d with members of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/u2\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/u2\/\">U2<\/a>, singer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/enya\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/enya\/\">Enya<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/van-morrison\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/van-morrison\/\">Van Morrison<\/a> all making their homes there over the years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">During lockdown in 2020, Hollywood actor Matt Damon was spotted there with a SuperValu bag in hand when filming for The Last Duel was shut down leaving him stranded in Ireland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Singer Harry Styles and his then girlfriend Olivia Wilde visited in 2022 before his concert in the Aviva Stadium. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Vico Baths is being closed down by D\u00fan Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council from next Monday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The council has appointed Cunningham Civil and Marine Ltd to carry out essential repair works. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Matt Damon after a swim in Dalkey in 2020 with his SuperValu shopping bag. Photograph: Twitter <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">This will involve repairs to concrete access steps, replacement of damaged railings and the installation of new swim ladders. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThese works will enhance the existing swimming facilities and help protect this area for future use,\u201d the council said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Vico Baths was originally only open to men, but now has communal changing rooms. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dun-laoghaire-rathdown-county-council\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dun-laoghaire-rathdown-county-council\/\">D\u00fan Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council<\/a> said the large \u201c7 EIRE\u201d sign will remain open to visitors.
