{"id":321186,"date":"2026-02-28T04:01:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T04:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/321186\/"},"modified":"2026-02-28T04:01:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T04:01:13","slug":"turkiyes-unemployment-rate-climbs-to-8-1-in-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/321186\/","title":{"rendered":"T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s unemployment rate climbs to 8.1% in January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysabah.com\/business\/economy\/turkiyes-unemployment-drops-to-25-year-low-of-77-in-december\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unemployment rate<\/a> increased to 8.1% in January from 7.8% the previous month, the country\u2019s statistical authority said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) reported that the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over rose by 73,000 to 2.82 million.<\/p>\n<p>Unemployment stood at 6.6% among men and 11% among women in January.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, employment also declined, with 516,000 fewer people working, bringing the total number of employed to 32.95 million. The overall employment rate was 47.9%, including 65.3% for men and 30.9% for women.<\/p>\n<p>The labor force decreased by 443,000 to 33.77 million, with the participation rate at 52.1%.<\/p>\n<p>Youth unemployment &#8211; covering those aged 15 to 24 &#8211; edged up by 0.1 percentage points from December 2025 to 14.3% in January.
