Quinn Hughes is an actual NHL player who just won gold with Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.<\/p>\n

On February 28, fantasy will allegedly meet reality when Hughes joins Storrie at 30 Rockefeller Center, according to a report by The Athletic<\/a>. Here\u2019s why the news has upset so many Heated Rivalry fans.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the background?<\/p>\n

Heated Rivalry\u2019s positive impact on hockey\u2019s reputation is not up for debate. The NHL, which has zero out queer players<\/a> and a complicated history<\/a> with the LGBTQ+ community, saw a noticeable increase in interest<\/a> since the show\u2019s debut in late November 2025. Earlier this month NHL\u2019s chief communications officer, Jon Weinstein, told Sports Illustrated<\/a> that the league\u2019s TikTok account experienced an 83% increase in followers, while the league saw an 114% increase in average new daily followers.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also worth noting that the success of the show\u2014which includes an episode set at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia\u2014was so massive that Connor Storrie and his costar Hudson Williams were invited to help carry the Olympic torch<\/a> for part of its journey from Olympia, Greece, to Milano Cortina.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes\u2019 road to the 2026 Olympics was paved with charming viral memes<\/a>, Tate McRae dating rumors<\/a>, and wholesome narratives<\/a> about their mom\u2019s accomplishments with the women\u2019s team. Ellen Hughes works as a player development coach for Team USA\u2019s women\u2019s hockey team, which won gold<\/a> against Team Canada in overtime two days before the men\u2019s team won gold<\/a> against the same country with the same final 2\u20141 score in overtime.<\/p>\n

Team USA women\u2019s hockey has medaled in eight consecutive<\/a> Olympics since 1998, earning three gold medals total. The men\u2019s team just secured their first gold medal since 1980<\/a>. They hadn\u2019t even medaled at the Olympics since winning silver in 2010. You couldn\u2019t have asked for a more triumphant storybook ending\u2026then Donald Trump got involved.<\/p>\n

What happened after Team USA men\u2019s hockey won gold?<\/p>\n

Things took a turn when FBI director Kash Patel was seen partying with the men\u2019s team<\/a> after their victory (having attended the Olympics on taxpayers\u2019 dime<\/a>, of course). The next day, the men\u2019s team accepted a congratulatory call<\/a> from the president, who invited them to the White House for his State of the Union address, but not without taking a swipe at the women\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI must tell you, we\u2019re going to have to bring the women\u2019s team,\u201d Trump said with a laugh. \u201cYou do know that. I do believe I probably would be impeached.\u201d<\/p>\n

The entire men\u2019s team seemed to laugh right along with him, and all but five players<\/a> attended Trump\u2019s speech on February 24. The women\u2019s team declined Trump\u2019s invitation<\/a>, but seem to be looking forward<\/a> to a trip to Vegas being organized by Flavor Flav.<\/p>\n
