A man has been charged with burgling a house in Co Meath <\/a>\u2013 with intent to commit rape.<\/p>\n The man, who is 27, appeared at Navan District Court<\/a> in the county on Friday morning, where he faced one charge connected to an incident at a property in Dunshaughlin last Wednesday.<\/p>\n He has been charged with burglary<\/a>. It is alleged he trespassed at the property with intent to commit an arrestable offence \u2013 of rape.<\/p>\n The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged under section 21a of the Theft and Fraud Act.<\/p>\n That section relates to burgling a property by trespassing with intent to commit the arrestable offence.<\/p>\n Detective Sergeant Shane Dervan of Ashbourne Garda Station<\/a> told Judge Eirinn McKiernan that the accused made no reply to the charge.<\/p>\n There was a bail application, to which Det Sgt Dervan objected because of the serious nature of the alleged offence.<\/p>\n Judge McKiernan refused the bail application and the accused was remanded in custody to appear at Trim District Court, also in Meath, next Tuesday.<\/p>\n The Judge also directed that the accused receive urgent medical and psychiatric treatment while in custody.<\/p>\n The maximum penalty for the offence the man is alleged to have committed is a fine and 14 years in prison.<\/p>\n Get all the big crime and court stories direct to your phone on our new WhatsApp service.
