Thousands of Irish motorists are failing to take advantage of a useful grant of \u20ac3,500 towards the purchase of a new car.<\/p>\n
Electric vehicles (EVs) are key in Ireland’s<\/a> Climate Action Plan, contributing to the decarbonisation of our transport sector and assisting in the eradication of harmful emissions.<\/p>\n With ambitious climate action targets to meet, the Irish government has implemented incentives to motivate more drivers to transition to an EV.<\/p>\n As part of this initiative to promote electric cars, Irish drivers can qualify for a grant from the Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland (SEAI) if they purchase a battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV) that meets certain criteria.<\/p>\n Many Irish drivers are unaware of the grant which could see them eligible up to \u20ac3500 when purchasing a new car plus avail of the lowest rate of car tax available(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n Here’s all you need to know about the grant and how to apply, reports RSVP Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n How much can you claim?<\/p>\n You can receive a grant of up to \u20ac3,500 for battery-powered electric vehicles (BEV).<\/p>\n The BEV grant only applies to new cars with a full price ranging between \u20ac14,000 and \u20ac60,000.<\/p>\n Your car dealer will handle the grant application on your behalf and then subtract the grant amount from the total cost of your car.<\/p>\n The \u20ac2,500 grant for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) has been discontinued.<\/p>\n How to apply<\/p>\n Select an EV make\/model.<\/p>\n Visit your nearest dealer to take a test drive. The dealer will address any performance and specification questions you might have.<\/p>\n When buying a vehicle, the dealer will apply for the grant on your behalf. The grant amount is deducted from the total agreed price for your new Electric Vehicle.<\/p>\n As with any purchase, we suggest approaching multiple dealers to secure the most competitive price for your vehicle.<\/p>\n What other grants are available?<\/p>\n From January 1, 2024 onwards, you can also apply for the Home Charger Grant Scheme.<\/p>\n This is a government-funded support programme helping residents and homeowners to fit an electric vehicle charging point at their property and will provide you with up to \u20ac300 towards the installation expenses of a home charger.<\/p>\n Want to see more of the stories you love from the Irish Mirror?
