{"id":322696,"date":"2026-03-01T01:10:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-01T01:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/322696\/"},"modified":"2026-03-01T01:10:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-01T01:10:09","slug":"limerick-man-deeply-apologetic-for-assaulting-a-taxi-driver-over-a-fare-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/322696\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick man &#8216;deeply apologetic&#8217; for assaulting a taxi driver over a fare dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A MAN who assaulted a taxi driver over a fare dispute has appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick<\/a> District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth Greany, 45, with an address at Aspen Gardens, St Patrick\u2019s Road, Limerick, assaulted the driver while in the taxi at his own address on May 31, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Giving evidence, Sergeant Denis Waters said that Mr Greany held his hand to the driver\u2019s neck \u201cfor a few seconds\u201d, and hit the driver with an open hand. The court heard Mr Greany was intoxicated at the time of the assault.<\/p>\n<p>Garda\u00ed were alerted to the assault and conveyed Mr Greany to Henry Street garda station.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2023834\/it-was-his-land-but-my-hedge-heated-dispute-between-limerick-neighbours-ends-in-assault.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">&#8216;It was his land, but my hedge&#8217; &#8211; heated dispute between Limerick neighbours ends in assault<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The man made admissions at the station and said that his actions were uncalled for.<\/p>\n<p>Solicitor Tom Kiely, defending Mr Greany, said that the man is \u201cdeeply apologetic and embarrassed\u201d over the incident, and that he \u201cwished to apologise to the taxi driver\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The 45-year-old came to court with \u20ac500 of compensation for the victim.<\/p>\n<p>Contact had previously been made with the taxi driver, who declined to meet Mr Greany.<\/p>\n<p>The solicitor said that a \u201cbuild up of stress\u201d contributed to the assault, and that Mr Greany has no previous convictions, bar a road traffic violation. Mr Kiely handed documents to Judge Patricia Harney to give insight into the man\u2019s stress.<\/p>\n<p>Upon viewing the material, the judge said: \u201cI see who he is\u201d.
