\n\tOriginal \u201cScream 7<\/a>\u201d directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly<\/a> and shared some details about their unrealized vision for the horror sequel.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough they knew they wanted to test the boundaries of \u201chow hard we can go\u201d with \u201cScream 7,\u201d Bettinelli-Olpin said he and Gillet never got that far in development because they left the franchise to direct the 2024 vampire-thriller \u201cAbigail.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe never read a draft of any version of \u2018Scream 7\u2019 that we were going to do because we had left to do \u2018Abigail\u2019 before that,\u201d Bettinelli-Olpin said. \u201cThe thing that we had in our minds for \u2018Scream 7\u2019 was sort of like, \u2018How hard can we go with this?\u2019 It was the thing that we talked a lot about. For us, it was always this idea of, [if] \u2018Scream 6\u2019 is like a secret feel-good movie, \u2018Scream 7\u2019s\u2019 going to fuck you up. That was as much as we ever got to.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGillet added, \u201cGiven that we expanded the sort of scope of the story by going to New York, the other thing that we had talked about \u2014 just Matt and I, by the way, it wasn\u2019t a conversation with the writers \u2014 was, \u2018How do you do the opposite for 7?\u2019 Like, shrink it down and make it this like ultra-contained, almost continuous, like minute-to-minute thing. But outside of our own stupid idea, we weren\u2019t privy to any plan beyond just, \u2018There\u2019s gonna be another one.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cScream 7\u201d follows Neve Campbell\u2019s original franchise protagonist, Sidney Prescott, who relocates to the small town of Pine Grove for a quiet life with her daughter, only to have Ghostface return to tear it all down. Campbell stars alongside fellow original cast members Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Matthew Lillard, as well as Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale and Mckenna Grace.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cScream 7\u201d hit theaters on Friday, and although Paramount<\/a> and Spyglass are looking at a $60 million payday<\/a> over opening weekend, it wasn\u2019t easy getting the film off the ground.<\/a> 2024 saw the exit of series stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, as well as director Christopher Landon. Original \u201cScream\u201d writer Kevin Williamson was hired as director in Landon\u2019s place.
