Music takes centre stage at Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026, with this year\u2019s theme, \u201cA Ghaeilge, mo cheol th\u00fa,” celebrating the deep and enduring connection between the Irish language and music.<\/p>\n
Conor Curley, lead guitarist with Fontaines D.C., and R\u00f3is\u00edn Seoighe, sean-n\u00f3s singer and lead vocalist with IML\u00c9, are the ambassadors<\/a> for the SnaG 2026.<\/p>\n \u201cI learned Irish in school and, similar to a lot of people, I fell away from the language for a while,” Curley said.<\/p>\n “But I am making my way back to it now, which is the main thing; that it\u2019s never too late to open that door again.\u201d<\/p>\n Seoighe remarked: \u201cIrish isn\u2019t static for me; it\u2019s a language that grows with you. It\u2019s rooted in tradition, but it finds its own voice in music and in modern life.\u201d<\/p>\n
What is Seachtain na Gaeilge?<\/p>\n Running frrom March 1 through March 17, Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international Irish language festival and one of the biggest celebrations of Ireland’s native language and culture.<\/p>\n Organizers say Seachtain na Gaeilge provides an opportunity for everyone to enjoy Irish, whether you are a fluent speaker, learner, or have a c\u00fapla focal.<\/p>\n Voluntary and community groups, local authorities, schools, libraries, and music, sports, arts, and culture organizations plan events for Seachtain na Gaeilge in their local area.<\/p>\n This year, dozens of events across the island of Ireland have been registered – you can find a running list on snag.ie<\/a> and sceal.ie<\/a>.<\/p>\n Among the key events for SnaG 2026 is L\u00e1 na gCiorcal<\/a> (Conversation Circle Day), which returns on March 11.\u00a0The day spotlights the conversation circles that are being hosted in Ireland, as well as around the world.<\/p>\n “These groups give people the chance to use their Irish, whether they are a learner with a c\u00fapla focal or a native speaker who\u2019s looking to meet new people with Irish, something which is so important!” organizers said.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, RT\u00c9 is again joining forces with Conradh na Gaeilge for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026, serving as media partner for the event.<\/p>\n RT\u00c9 says it will mark the occasion with a refreshed Irish language campaign and an expanded slate of live Irish and bilingual content across television, radio, and online<\/a>.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, Raidi\u00f3 R\u00ed-R\u00e1, the Irish language youth station, has announced that it will celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge the entire month of March on\u00a0FM airwaves across the country: Dublin (105.2fm), Limerick (105.5fm), Cork (106.7fm), and Galway (87.7fm) – as well as on usual listening platforms rrr.ie<\/a>, the Raidi\u00f3 R\u00ed-R\u00e1 app, and on F\u00e1ilte DAB.<\/p>\n
Ireland’s Office of Public Works has also organized a number of free events to mark Seachtain na Gaeilge<\/a>.<\/p>\n
