Ireland got their FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup qualification campaign off to a winning start after beating Canada 5-2 in Santiago, Chile on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Mark Tumilty’s side took the lead through Adam McAllister’s ninth minute goal, before doubling that advantage in the second quarter thanks to Jonathan Lynch.<\/p>\n
The Irish team tightened their grip on proceedings when Jeremy Duncan made it 3-0 with a clever finish after being teed up by Greg Williams.<\/p>\n
However, Canada pulled one back early in the fourth quarter via Rowan Childs’ penalty corner.<\/p>\n
But Lee Cole restored Ireland’s three-goal cushion with a penalty corner of their own, only for Canada to respond again via the same avenue.<\/p>\n
Ireland made sure of victory late on after McAllister earned a penalty which Cole converted to seal a valuable 5-2 win.<\/p>\n
