A man has lost his life following a road traffic collision<\/a> in Co Kildare<\/a>.<\/p>\n Gardai<\/a> and emergency services were called to the scene following reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a lorry on the westbound carriageway of the M4 near Kilcock shortly before 7am on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n The pedestrian, a man aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n The Coroner has been notified and post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.<\/p>\n The westbound carriageway of the M4 between J7 Maynooth and J8 Kilcock remains closed this afternoon to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination of the scene.<\/p>\n Traffic diversions are currently in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.<\/p>\n An investigation into the fatal collision is underway and gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them.<\/p>\n A garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Shortly after 6:50am, Garda\u00ed and emergency services were alerted after a lorry struck a pedestrian on the westbound carriageway of the M4 near Kilcock. The pedestrian a male in his 60s was pronounced deceased at the scene.<\/p>\n “The Coroner has been notified and post-mortem examination will be conducted in due course.<\/p>\n “The westbound carriageway of the M4 between J7 Maynooth and J8 Kilcock remains closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with traffic diversions currently in place.<\/p>\n “Garda\u00ed are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the M4 in the vicinity of Junction 8 Kilcock at the time are asked to make it available to investigating Garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n “Anyone with information is asked to contact Leixlip Garda Station 01 6667800 the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.<\/p>\n “The garda spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing.”<\/p>\n The incident occurred just hours after two young men were killed<\/a> after the car in which they were travelling left the road and crashed into a flooded ditch in Co Mayo<\/a>.<\/p>\n The collision occurred shortly after 4.15am on the L5140 at Laghtadawannagh, near Ballina.<\/p>\n Two occupants of the car, both adult men in their late teens, were pronounced dead at the scene, while three other occupants, two men in their mid-teens and a woman in her late teens, were taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital.<\/p>\n Want to see more of the stories you love from the Irish Mirror?
