Noel Gallagher<\/a>\u00a0picked up the\u00a0BRIT Award<\/a>\u00a0for Songwriter of the Year\u00a0last night, but his speech was censored on ITV \u2013 see it in full below.<\/p>\n

The awards show went down in Gallagher\u2019s hometown of Manchester on Saturday night (February 28),\u00a0the first time it has been held outside of London in its 47-year history<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As announced before the ceremony, the\u00a0Oasis<\/a>\u00a0guitarist was\u00a0the winner of the Songwriter of the Year award<\/a>, which\u00a0recognises\u00a0\u201cexceptional songwriting\u201d\u00a0and has previously been awarded to the likes of\u00a0Ed Sheeran<\/a>,\u00a0Kid Harpoon<\/a>,\u00a0RAYE<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Charli XCX<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The award was presented by\u00a0Primal Scream<\/a>\u00a0frontman\u00a0Bobby Gillespie<\/a>, while a video package included a personal message from Pep Guardiola, the manager of Noel\u2019s beloved Manchester City.<\/p>\n

As he took to the stage, Noel said: \u201cYes Manchester. I\u2019m gonna start by saying, I\u2019ve gotta thank my brother<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0Bonehead<\/a>, Guigsy, Tony McCarroll, Alan White, Gem and Andy<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 they brought those songs to life. Without them,\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0just be a singer-songwriter, and no-one\u00a0gives a shit about singer-songwriters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut more importantly,\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0like to thank you, the\u00a0people, who\u00a0have kept those songs alive for the last 35 years. Without you,\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0given us the most extraordinary life, and thank you very much for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Noel concluded by returning to the Manchester theme: \u201cHave a\u00a0great night. Up the fucking Blues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Noel\u2019s brother Liam was not in attendance at the BRITs<\/a>, but\u00a0evidently\u00a0he was watching from afar, as minutes after Noel\u2019s speech, Liam posted on X: \u201cAll hail the greatest songwriter this country has ever seen since Lennon n McCartney\u00a0ps\u00a0my name is\u00a0liam\u00a0x\u201d<\/p>\n

The BRITs\u00a0organisers\u00a0said they had selected Gallagher for the award as he had \u201cpermeated the fabric of British culture for over 30 years\u201d with songs that \u201ccontinue to resonate with audiences around the world like no other\u201d, but some have pointed to the fact that Gallagher has in fact not released any new songs over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n

Noel addressed the backlash during an appearance on talkSPORT earlier this month<\/a>, in which he admitted:\u00a0\u201cI\u00a0haven\u2019t\u00a0written a song for two years.\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0not sure how\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0got away with that\u00a0one\u00a0but\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0take it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you know, if\u00a0anybody\u2019s got\u00a0a problem with it, meet me there,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe\u2019ll\u00a0have it out on the red carpet. If any of those wet\u00a0wipes\u00a0songwriting teams, all 11 of them, want to write a song between the lot of them, want to have it out on the red carpet,\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0there.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the huge Oasis reunion tour last year<\/a>, Noel recently revealed he is back in the studio<\/a>, although whether this is for an Oasis project or something else is not yet clear.<\/p>\n

It was\u00a0Olivia Dean<\/a>\u00a0who ended up dominating the BRITs this year, winning four awards, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. See the full list of winners\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
