{"id":324709,"date":"2026-03-02T08:55:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T08:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/324709\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T08:55:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T08:55:09","slug":"hurling-dissent-rule-to-be-in-place-for-league-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/324709\/","title":{"rendered":"Hurling dissent rule to be in place for league finals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new dissent rules in hurling will be in place for the Allianz Hurling League finals, the GAA has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Motion 19 \u2013 the proposed introduction of the dissent rule to hurling \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/football\/2026\/0228\/1560940-inter-county-season-extension-motion-withdrawn-late-on\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">passed with 95.1% of the vote<\/a> at Saturday&#8217;s GAA Congress at Croke Park.<\/p>\n<p>The rule is already in play in football where a 50-metre punishment is the penalty, with hurling adopting a potential 30-metre penalty.<\/p>\n<p>Once voted through, the rule, per regulation, comes into force 28 days later, in this case the weekend after the final round of Division 1A\/1B fixtures with their finals scheduled for 4-5 April.<\/p>\n<p>The Division 2, 3 and 4 finals are scheduled for 28-29 March, so the rule will be in play in time for those too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One third of the teams that will play in the championship will have direct experience of it,&#8221; said GAA director general Tom Ryan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did toy with the idea of bringing it in earlier so that everybody would have direct experience of it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;(We) just felt that was maybe a little bit unfair on referees to be short-circuiting the process.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So just play it straight, 28 days from today (Saturday) is when it comes in and it&#8217;ll catch the weekend.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The new dissent rules in hurling will be in place for the Allianz Hurling League finals, the GAA&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":324710,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[61,60,112],"class_list":{"0":"post-324709","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sports","8":"tag-ie","9":"tag-ireland","10":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/324709","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=324709"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/324709\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/324710"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=324709"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=324709"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=324709"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
