{"id":326777,"date":"2026-03-03T14:27:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T14:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/326777\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T14:27:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T14:27:08","slug":"traffic-survey-in-fastest-growing-suburb-in-limerick-is-ruled-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/326777\/","title":{"rendered":"Traffic survey in fastest-growing suburb in Limerick is ruled out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LIMERICK City and County <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/576\/motoring-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Council<\/a> will not carry out a new traffic study in an area which may see the construction of hundreds of new homes.<\/p>\n<p>Groody Developments has secured planning permission for a 1,400-bed student housing development towering up to eight storeys over Groody Road and Dublin Road.<\/p>\n<p>On top of this, A &amp; G Thomond Builders Limited is seeking the green light to build 95 apartments, 22 houses and a student accommodation scheme with 309 bed spaces.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/planning\/2028539\/developers-set-to-seek-permission-for-over-730-new-homes-in-limerick.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Developers set to seek permission for over 730 new homes in Limerick<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also based around Groody Road, council is scheduled to make a decision on the plans later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Off the back of this, Fine Gael councillor Peter Doyle has called for a traffic study of the area, a move which was also supported by a number of other metropolitan members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese developments will result in more traffic congestion on the Groody Road and make it more challenging to enter and exit the Caisle\u00e1n na hAbhann residential estate,\u201d he said.<br \/>Cllr Doyle said many residents have told him they must leave before 8am during University of Limerick term-times to bring children to creche and school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that a traffic study can confirm the congestion and come up with some solutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>His call was backed by Fianna Fail councillor Joe Pond and Independent members Ursula Gavan and Elena Secas.<\/p>\n<p>But transport director Patricia Liddy stated in response that the onus is on those applying for development to carry out what she described as a \u201cmobility management plan\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis mobility plan requires developers to report on modal use by a development, including traffic figures using the development,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Liddy added the objective of current strategies is to \u201cpromote modal shift\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This means encouraging people to get out of their cars and use other transport.<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT &#8211;
