Two huge screen stars<\/a> are set to star in a stage adaptation of Jean Genet’s 1947 “masterpiece” The Maids. Bridgerton’s Yerin Ha<\/a> and House of the Dragon’s Phia Saban<\/a> will star alongside Olivier Award nominee Lydia Wilson in the classic show, which is part of St. Ann’s Warehouse’s 2025\/2026 season.<\/p>\n

The show will be penned by Kip Williams following the success of The Picture of Dorian Gray, which starred Sarah Snook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Williams is set to “reset” the show for the “digital age”, with shows set to take place at the Brooklyn theatre from May 17 to June 14. <\/p>\n

Saban and Wilson are set to star as the show’s maids, Solange and Claire, while Ha appears as their mistress, Madame. <\/p>\n

Per a synopsis: “With their mistress away, two maids act out their darkest fantasies about Madame, their abusive ‘influencer’ employer. <\/p>\n

“They obsessively role-play all day long, to the point of ‘murdering’ her, until performance and reality begin to blur. <\/p>\n

“Williams\u2019 contemporary take is a timely parable about modern identity and the destructive desire to both emulate and annihilate those we idolize.”<\/p>\n

Following its premiere at the Donmar Warehouse in 2025, The Maids received several rave reviews, with The Guardian<\/a> branding it “exhilarating.”<\/p>\n

The Stage<\/a> said it was “a dazzling digital-age headrush,” while The Daily Mail<\/a> described it as “wildly extravagant” and “superbly done.”<\/p>\n

Ahead of the show’s latest run, Williams opened up about how our society’s obsession with social media and living “a large portion of our lives online” inspired his fresh take on the classic story.<\/p>\n

“This play is all about that act of performance, about that essential human experience of attempting to perform self for others, and the ways in which that act of performance can open up a chasm between fantasy and reality, between how we want to be seen and who we truly are,” he explained. <\/p>\n

“Our unparalleled access to the lives of others is creating an exacerbated obsession with lives centred around materialism, youth, and beauty\u2026Jean Genet, in the middle of the 20th century, had a somewhat prophetic view of how a society that was obsessed with materialism might unravel, and, unfortunately, he was correct.” <\/p>\n

The Maids will be staged at St. Ann’s Warehouse from May 17 to June 14.<\/p>\n
