The company wants to be launching 20 missions per year by the end of the decade and 30 per year in the 2030s.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"4cf142e3-1a82-49aa-8a02-21b8e5a90319-1\">Space One&#8217;s first <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29295-rocket-history.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29295-rocket-history.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29295-rocket-history.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rocket<\/a> is the 59-foot-tall (18 meters) Kairos, which consists of three solid-fuel stages topped by a liquid-propellant upper stage. Kairos can deliver up to 330 pounds (150 kilograms) of payload to sun-synchronous orbit, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space-one.co.jp\/vehicle\/index_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space-one.co.jp\/vehicle\/index_e.html\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to Space One<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kairos has launched two times to date, encountering serious problems on each occasion.<\/p>\n<p id=\"cda20374-8770-4e65-8d72-a93b5deb44c5\">Kairos&#8217; debut flight in March 2024 ended just <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/japan-first-commercial-rocket-explodes-space-one-kairos\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/japan-first-commercial-rocket-explodes-space-one-kairos\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/japan-first-commercial-rocket-explodes-space-one-kairos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">five seconds after liftoff<\/a> when the rocket&#8217;s flight termination system detected lower-than-expected velocity and thrust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>The second launch, in December 2024, lasted longer but also <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/private-japanese-rocket-explodes-after-liftoff-in-its-2nd-launch-failure-of-2024-photos\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/private-japanese-rocket-explodes-after-liftoff-in-its-2nd-launch-failure-of-2024-photos\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/private-japanese-rocket-explodes-after-liftoff-in-its-2nd-launch-failure-of-2024-photos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">met an explosive end<\/a>. Space One terminated the mission about three minutes into flight, at an altitude of roughly 62 miles (100 kilometers), after detecting performance anomalies. Five <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">satellites<\/a> were lost.<\/p>\n<p>Five small spacecraft will go up on today&#8217;s flight as well.
