{"id":329004,"date":"2026-03-04T20:33:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T20:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/329004\/"},"modified":"2026-03-04T20:33:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T20:33:07","slug":"man-charged-with-murder-of-kerry-farmer-michael-gaine-further-remanded-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/329004\/","title":{"rendered":"Man charged with murder of Kerry farmer Michael Gaine further remanded \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A 54-year-old man charged with the murder of Kenmare farmer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/michael-gaine\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/michael-gaine\/\">Michael Gaine<\/a> appeared before Tralee District Court on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Michael Kelley is a US national with no fixed abode but with a recent address in Tralee, and a date of birth of July 27th, 1971.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He is charged with murdering 56-year-old Michael Gaine on a date between March 20th and March 21st, 2025, at Carrig, Kenmare, Co Kerry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Last week\u2019s court heard he made no reply when charged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Appearing via video-link on Wednesday morning, Michael Kelley confirmed his identity and that he could see and hear the court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Solicitor Pat Mann greeted his client.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Court presenter Sergeant Chris Manton said the State\u2019s application was for further remand in custody to March 18th for production of the book of evidence. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mann said he had no objection to this. A High Court bail application was being formulated on behalf of his client, the solicitor said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It was unlikely the book of evidence would be ready by then, the court heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Judge Waters further remanded Kelley to appear in Tralee on March 18th.
